Wireless internet for laptop

I've been thinking about getting wireless internet service for my laptop so I can start getting out of town once in a while. T-Moble has an internet plan on their website for $30 a month for unlimited transfer that works with the Sierra Wireless AirCard 750.

Anyone know how it is? Seems cheap since I've seen plans from other providers for $100 and not unlimited transfer...

I dont know much about T-Mobile's service but I have used Sprint PCS's since they released it last summer and it is great. Anywhere the signal is decent it is about the speed of a dialup or a bit better. I like to sit on the beach sometimes and do work. The downside is that it is $99 per month for unlimited data, but of course you can write it off. The plan you mentioned seems to cheap to be true... is it 3G service or is it that old 14K speed?

I've heard very good things about Verizon wireless internet on laptops here in NYC and the boroughs.

I don't know the speed. I went by one of the local T-Mobile stores and all they could tell be was that it was $30 per month unlimited and they didn't have the cards in stock. It was some teenager that didn't seem to know too much about them.

Im almost positive that for that price its the super-slow 2G network access. Verizon is also good... quite similar to the Sprint PCS service, although Ive heard its not quite up to par with it. If you have Sprint in your area, I highly recommend it. For $30 for unlimited data you arent gonna get the same thing that Sprint and Verizon provide (unless there is a hidden cost, like paying for minutes on top of it or whatever).

I'll look into Sprint. T-Mobile caught my eye since it's so cheap, and I won't really use it all that much, but if it's too slow I won't want to use it anyway...

the tmobile and sprint data plans are nice and cheap, but you dont get the quality nor the speed that you get with verizon.

the verizon plan is like $79 per month for unlimited, but if you go the way i did and you get one of the pda phones (well the only one you should get is the samsung i700) and you download the cdma drivers from somewhere else, you can get away with getting the unlimited wireless sync plan for $45 per month with your voice plan and that gives you unlimited express network minutes on your laptop. verizon is really good in the fact that if youa re getting less than like 50k/s in a certain area on an ongoing basis, you just call them up and they will fix it pretty quick. in general i get speeds of around 80k/s but sometimes its upwards of 128

(btw for more info on this stuff http://www.pdaphonehome.com is a great resource as those guys are hardcore data users and every service is represented there)
