A second member of the U.S. military has been detained after being found with classified information on Guantanamo Bay detainees, CNN has learned. Details soon.

that's what I was kind of wondering , I belive as a country that stands up for rights of people and freedom of speech.. we should not be treating even our worst enemies any wose than what we would expect them to treat our captured soliders...

Bush's goones use the play of words to to claim they don't arn't military soliders but terriost so they don't deserve any rights... but it seems the British once claimed the same about Americans in the American revlotion of the orginal 13 colonies that later formed the USA... they were allso called terriost.

The soliders of American revloution couldn't do a stright up fight aginst the British Empire, and they knew it... there fore they learned from the Indians and faught from the woods and using suprise attacks... which at that time was concidered terriosim.. So infact America could be arugued was founded on terrorism..

I personally think the talliban, are soliders and deserve the same rights that any soldier should be given under the Geniva convention... I DO NOT agree with the belives of the talliban but I think they were fighting the only way they could and that is concidered terrorism, being they knew they didn't stand a chance aginst the tipical army.

WTF? It was breaking news but read the whole story:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/09/23/air...nee/index.html

The Air Force guy that was detained was arrested a MONTH ago. 2 weeks before the Army chaplain. Kinda weird how they are releasing info 2-4 weeks after the stuff happens. I am sure they will use "national security" as their excuse. Seems pretty odd.

Hey, if they are terrorists, screw em. But some people there have been given no reason for being detained and have no access to legal counsel.

Its so easy for this stuff to happen its a joke. Too many people have access and not enough people are watching who's handling what documents.

This goes back to the whole issue of database security. It sucks. The government can't protect jack squat.

The overwhelming majority of those being held prisoner are not Taliban fighters...they or from countries around the world that are al Qeada trained. Some that were Taliban fighters have already been released and if there are more Taliban fighters being held...some of those may also be released.

You confuse "you not being given a reason" with "there being no reason"
just because YOU don't know why they're being held does not mean the people we are paying to hold them don't have a reason.

I wonder why it's called "breaking news" when it happened a month ago:

The man was detained about a month ago, officials said, and no charges have been filed against the Air Force detainee.

For all we know, he's a member of the Taliban and is getting info back and forth to the detainees - whom, by the way, are pretty much getting their sorry butts kissed thanks to the ACLU.

And if you folks think for ONE SECOND if Americans had been caught trying to destroy another country's government and civilians and wouldn't be killed on site or tortured then you're kidding yourself. American's are treated much worse that the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay for much smaller crimes in other countries every day.

Fuck you all - Let them rot in Cuba for all I care.

If a member of the US armed forces was captured, they would be beaten into a pulp until every single bit of useable info was pulled out of them. The US is treating these people with respect.

US laws do not apply to war zones, or even other countries for that matter. After WWII thousands of people were "detained" until it was proved or otherwise decided they were not a threat.

These people DO NOT have the rights that we have in the US.

And while we are at it, the US Armed Forces operates under it's own laws called the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It's similar to US laws in many ways, but also differs. And how the laws and rules of conduct used by the US Armed Forces before, during, and after a war are very different.

One would think that these documents would be more secure than they are currently.

We need to drop a load of webmasters to admin the networks down there and resolve these problems altogether.

RocHard and Peaches,
we could easily just beat these guys up and kill them.. make them disappear or what ever... but I thought this country was founded on justice and freedom...

why should we sink to the level of other countries ... why are we not proving that we have faith in the very laws our soldiers fight to protect? is it all a scam? do our laws mean nothing?

We DON"T beat them up and kill them or whatever. Actually, they are getting much better treatment than your average high-security state prisoner has here in the states.

As for allowing them a free access to the outside world to communicate with other potential terrorist groups....can't you be pragmatic about protecting our national security at ALL? I would love to see what you would say if you were in charge and you allowed this.....what would you say to families of the next victims of terrorism in the US?

Sometimes in a crisis, (see almost every major war we have been in), you have to take tough practical measures in order to protect your country.

Thank goodness that the people who tend to get to that level of power tend to be realists!

Which is why they AREN'T being beat up, killed, made to disappear, etc. But they also aren't getting 2 ply toilet tissue, Kleenex with lotion tissues, pillow topped mattresses and down comforters. They ARE prisoners and should be treated as such.

I personally think the talliban, are soliders and deserve the same rights that any soldier should be given under the Geniva convention
Which they're getting - PLUS even more benefits thanks to the whiners who for some reason feel we need to pamper the terrorist POW's. (insert the "rolling eyes" icon I so desperately need)

What are we supposed to do with people who are suspected of being terrorists, send 'em flowers and the keys to Daddy's Porsche?

The reason why this one month old case has come to light now is very simple.

The US administration need more distractions from the real issues which they are failing to deal with.

Bush has stuffed up in Iraq so any news about spies is just another sensational distraction. The media love spy stories and lap them up.

Almost two years out from hostilities in Afghanistan and people are being held by the US government without trial or access to rudimentary contact with consular or legal assistance. The US simply loses credibility in the rest of the world when it acts like those it seeks to prosecute.

The US can carry on with this behaviour all it likes, as long as it does so it simply legitimises itself as a terrorist target to extremists around the world.

exactly my point we are acting no better than any other country that fails to follow the geniva convention.. if they are freeking terroist then put them on trial.. I'm mean really wtf you think we would freeking sit around and be understanding if Iran was holding US soldiers for supected terrorism aginst it's country.. with no plans of trial or release?
