Do you have a REAL future?

Someone, posted an article not too long ago saying that websites that offer porn really are not that profitable. Sure, you may be fortunate enough to make a living at it, but the odds of actually improving your lifestyle in any meaningful way are pretty remote (think hitting the lottery, remote).

Think about it.

Even moderately successful software businesses have their own offices, employees, a reputation in the community, industry contacts, and usually a nice sized payroll. They can find new employees, partners, and customers without too much inconvenience. Plus, they can advertise their services anywhere and be mentioned in the media and press without worry.

They can sell their services to governments, businesses, and public institutions (schools, hospitals, foundations, etc.). Basically, there are no limits to commerce.

As a software programmer, with a couple years experience, you can easily make $50-60K a year. If it is internet experience and you add a couple more years, that can jump to $100K+. If you create software, and get options, the sky is the limit.

Does anyone think there is that kind of money in porn websites? Everyone can name one of the top ten websites, but no one knows the top ten porn websites. Why? No barriers to entry and easy to duplicate content, and relatively little programming skill required.

Given the intense competition, the hassle with legal issues, dealing with the credit card companies, extremely perishable content, and the threat of legislation, it is not suprising to see why there is so much turnover in this part of the web.

He's right.
Not everyone is succesfull in the online porn biz.
Some ppl are f.e. good programmers, but with very poor business sense.
Others are good in marketing, but not in computer stuff.

They could be making more in a "normal" job in the offline world.

Also there are some ppl that got in porn when it was so easy...
They finished college and got into porn.
They were making big cash just with submitting galleries, they are still making it ( although less ), but some day it;s over.
And if they didn't make any business contacts they are fucked when it happens.
They have no CV

I also believe in that.
But some ppl are stupid.
Online porn was easy and everyone could make money in it - even those who would definitely fail in any other business.
If their way of making money is no longer possible, they are fucked.

There are people that make a fortune with porn and others that make nothing. Sex and booze will always sell and like any type of job, the wise thing to do is invest or save your current money for the future. But people that believe there is no money in porn online, is a great thing. Makes others all the richer

knock it off with the SPAM !

you are right though.

you have no future, you are stupid to a fault and can't sell for shit.

that is why YOU have no future.

What the salesman sells comes second, first and most important is the salesman himself.

Just another failure trying to blame it on others.

LOL

Know what this guy reminds me on?

The movie clerks...and at the beginning, the customer comes in and tells everyone to quit smoking, and everyone starts boycotting the stores cigarettes - then it turns out the guy is just a gum salesman trying to peddle his wares.

Same with this guy. Trying to sell his god-awful software idea by spamming his shit on the board. Go do a search - I've seen at least two other posts by him on the EXACT same topic. Enough already.

By the way, you are a fucking idiot. 50-60k a year? 100k with internet experience? Just wait until they start outsourcing more and more jobs to India and China to people that will work for less than a TENTH of that, then see if you're still getting that salary.

EXACTLY!!!

Thats pretty much what I would have said if you didn't get to it first. Those CCNA, CCNB, etc... network engineers used to make bank now its hard to even find a job for most of them. High tech jobs are extremely easy to send overseas. If the guy would have posted this stuff in maybe 99 or 2000, we'd be alot less skeptical, but even then I didn't think that bullshit could last.

While it may be true that many jobs are being outsourced to other countries, you have to look at the types of jobs these are. Things such as tech support, application maintenance, testing and debugging, customer service, and the like. These are not what you call high-growth, high-paying jobs.

If you have experience in the field and develop new products, then there isn't as much concern. You want to develop products where the customers are, and most are not in these outsourcing countries.

One thing I have learned over the past 2 decades is that there is a neverending demand for software. It is almost unquenchable. The only problem is that creating good software is such an outrageously time-consuming ordeal. Even the best programmers do not necessarily have the desire nor the commitment to create software correctly.

However, this is not true for providing porn over the web. Anybody can do it. Everybody can do it. In fact, you have all kinds of assistance to help you do it with free hosting, messageboards like this, free scripts, support groups, free webservers, and more.

How could anyone make money for long in an industry that supports so many people entering it? If you look at any successful software company, they try to make it as hard as possible to get in the field, not easier.

There is always going to be more money in mainstream because you have a much wider audience and more places available to advertise.

Porn is still a great business though and you can easily make 6 to 7 figs and beyond if you're clever. Its not easy, but it is still possible to do.
