Natural PhotoShop shading?

I am working on a space-oriented game, and need to create a lot of different planet graphics. Creating an interesting graphic in itself isn't hard, but I need some help with the shading (PaintShop Pro isn't sufficient in this area).

Look at these two fantastically finished planets:

And look at one of mine:

I want mine to have as good shading as the two above. If you know a way to do it in PaintShop Pro, that would be very nice, but I suspect I will have to use PhotoShop. Any tips?

O2

With PhotoShop just put a layer gradient overlay from black to transparent and adjust the angle...

Oh, and never mind the jagged edges, they will be used on a black background.

take that into Photoshop, then go to Layer Styles and use Inner Shadow, color Black, then play with the shit in there and your planet will look good.

remember when u open the GIF file in Photoshop that you have to set the Mode to RGB Color from Indexed Color or none of the filters and styles will work.

I copied the planet onto a new layer, used and inner shadow layer style at a distance of 26 and a size of 27 with an angle of -53 but you can play around with the settings to make it the way you want it.
