Jack Russell Terrier

A friend of my mother gave her a Jack Russell Terrier. I looked the breed up on the internet and they sound like a difficult breed of dog. Does anyone have any input about the breed or anecdotes?

I just got one 1-2 weeks ago. I would not recommend getting one if you don't hunt. There breed for hunting. They need to be occupied at all times. So if your gone all the time, do not get one.

My friend has one, he treats it like it was in the military. Funny stuff. He will sit there and yell out orders to it, but I'll be dammed - the dog listens.

I guess it depends on your dog, but this breed loves attention and requires much activity!

I've had a couple of them in the past, great little snake dogs but every now and then the snake wins, thats why I don't have them anymore.
But they are great little dogs

Well...the one site that had info about them...makes me think they are a difficult breed.

Extemely demanding...for attention...play...exercise.

Difficult to train and discipline...must be extemely firm with them at all times.

Are barkers...neighbors may not appreciate that.

Are diggers...there goes the yard.

May become attached to a single person and be agressive to other people.

Are usually agressive towards other dogs.

Likes to kill...cats...rabbits...birds...etc.

Cannot be trusted around younger children.

If they get out of the yard without your knowledge...the dog may never return.

Even well trained Jack Russells will be obedient for only short periods of time.

Will dig under fences...can climb any height chain link fence...can climb trees.

If it ever gets out of your eyesight you may never see it again.

Shit...sounds exactly like a dog that my mother does not need at all...nor I as far as that goes. It was crying so much the other night that I put it in bed with me to shut it up and it basically kept me awake the remainder of the night...eating my ears...nose...neck...fingers...toes...trying to tug my t-shirt off.

She is already attached to it...so it is probably here to stay...damn.

Col Big Balls has a jack russell and she's cute as hell. Also amazingly smart, however she can be a real nasty bitch when she wants to be.

I would never recommend them unless you live in the outdoors.
they love the woods and water.

But like previous posts they are very demanding dogs. Always needs attention. Are very aggressive to other dogs and people. They always act like they are on speed cause they move 100 mph.

not a good dog to have but they are cute though

they are awesome dogs but not for an older woman to have as a companion. They are hyper and jump around like Mexican jumping beans. A friend of mine has one............. guess where he found him one day? On top of the refrigerator. You figure out how he got there

I have 2 males, The 2nd one (pics below) I picked up last week. He is 7 weeks old.

This is a high maintenance breed, however they also bring great joy to their owners. I have 10 acres of land which is ideal for Jack Russells.

I wouldn't suggest them to apartment dwellers.

As with most high energy dogs, if you run the shit out of them a few times each day they will be happy and fun dogs to have as your pet. If they don't get their daily excercise they will be destructive.

My father in law has one... cute little dog... if you like little dogs... but it has a nasty habbit of doing the wee wee of joy... meaning it pisses when it gets excited.

I wouldn't recommend one of those little bastards to anyone over the age of 12. They are constantly hyper. It doesn't end when they grow up either. They constantly chew, dig, run, and bark. Since it's too late for your Mom, I would suggest some doggy downers.

My uncle had a bunch of them. They killed every cat, duck, chicken, rabbit, snake, turtle, everything they cam in contact with. The last one died last week at the age of 13, and she was feisty right up to the end. Are you willing to put up with a dog like that for 13 years? If so, I'd say go for it. If not, put the dog down...

They are a lot of work to have, very much a total pain in the ass if you like to do anything but pay 1000% attention to the dog.

The jack from my dad is walking around here now and I can tell you they love to get attention. A lot of attention!

This one is pretty smart too, ask him to go get his ball and he is looking for it the rest of the day until he finds it. Simple move to keep him bussy lol

Never had any problems with it neither did my dad. He can be alone all day and is easy to train.

Overall it's just an attention whore, but a pretty cool one
