I don't know if they are still making it but I use a program called Gallery Maker Pro 1.5 and I really like it.
It can make your galleries go to just the .jpg or to an .html file, it'll insert banners where you want them, in headers or footers, and it's super easy and fast.
I know you can still download it even if it's a little old now.

I wrote one that'll generate as many galleries as you want from a template and a dir full of pics. It's not well documented or user friendly or anything. I've found that usually the galleries made that way suck because they don't exactly come out in a good series.

What I do with it now is I point it to a dir with a picture set in it and use a template that has like 200-300 thumb spaces. I load this huge gallery into dreamweaver and copy/paste all the pics I want into my gallery file. It works pretty well but I haven't gotten the thumbnail quality to be quite as good as I'd like it to be.

after doing creating 30+ galleries per hour, you will uploading them all using your connection. and even after you will upload all stuff, making updates will be the pain in the ass.

it's better to have a server-based 100% automated shit

Server based is less pratical for me since I have lots of domains on different servers.

I would very much be interested in such a script if you decide to make one. It would be nice for the script to be able to diferenciate portrait and landscape pictures

There is one you're looking for that does *exactly* what you want (puts the pics where you specify, keeps going until all the pics in the folder are used), but it's server-side. It's the Gallery Maker over at OT Scripts. www.otscripts.com

For Windows-based, try Chewed Straw - it won't keep going automatically until all pics are used, you have to keep pressing a button to have it do the next gallery, but it also puts the pics where you want. www.chewedstraw.com

Arles' gallery-making function sucks for anything other than member's area galleries or a personal photo album - unless of course you *like* the surfer to be able to center his browser on your solid block of thumbs without having to look at advertising.

(However for resizing and making thumbs, Arles absofuckinglutely ROCKS.)
