Not suprised at the website's down, but rather, the delay in payment today. Expected to receive my payroll today, but was delayed.

Sure they are fine, lets not jump at shadows till we have some confirmation of what is occurring here.

Understandably we are all a bit reactionary at he moment, but lets not through the baby out with the bathwater!!

I have a call to them earlier today all fine and will be speaking to their CEO later today.

Will keep you posted.

This is getting beyond a joke. They've been down at least a few times in the past month, and the duration of each event is hours, not minutes. I think they've owned up to two of the outages.

"Verotel" was spamm^H^H^H^Hposting on here yesterday, what do you have to say about these problems?

I've just called Verotel and have been told that they switched to backup 30 seconds ago, but I still can't see any difference. I can't even resolve the IP for www.verotel.com

What bank are you using? I use Scotia and it always takes at least 3-4 days before the bank actually releases the funds to my account. A real pain...

Not as far as I know.

I have been into their server room in Amsterdam.

They may also have servers in San Francisco.

They run a site which processes for thousands of merchants around the clock and they don't have data centre with a UPS and generator?

They have been down only TWICE for a number of hours in the last month that I know of - I monitor 2 master accounts constantly, and would never be more than 6 hours between accesses. We didn't lose ANY processing last time as their processing system was still up, but this time the join page processing is down also.

I'm not hitting the panic button, but yet I rarely do. We do some hard research before making decisions, and having constant contact with different areas of Verza (Verotel) on almost a daily basis on a number of issues tells me our initial research is still valid. I would say they are as solid as iBill, but maybe that wouldn't be saying the right thing

I seem to remember when I was with some of the usual US based suspects that downtime was MUCH more frequent than what we have experienced in a relatively trouble free operation since December last year.

Has anyone else but me spoken with Visa Europe? Verotel's banks? Or even tried to get a press release from Visa USA? Pictures get painted a little differently.....

Don't believe the hype all the time.

Just because chicken little said the sky is falling didn't mean it was.

Ok everyone, calm down. Everything is fine. We experienced a power outage in Amsterdam which affected the entire block and surrounding area where our offices are located. I came home to work from home because as I figured with all the uproar of the last few days you guys would be jumping to all sorts of conclusions.

I have been informed a few minutes ago that the power is back up in Amsterdam and the system admins are working to bring all the servers and services back up.

Telephones are now working again in the event you want to call our main office.

The only thing I can say is #$% happens. Just be patient and everything will be back to normal soon.

Jesus Christ!!!

Gotta be more careful about the wording of my posts!!

26 ICQ's later from people wanting to know what I heard about Verotel going down the tubes etc etc etc etc....

WHOOAAA HORSEY!!!!

What I meant is that I spoke with Visa (USA and Europe) and the banks BEFORE we made the move to Verotel, and again in more recent times....

THE NEWS THEN WAS ALL GOOD!

The points I was alluding to are as follows:
- VISA USA never issued a press release (and don't have one!) when the original Visa BS hit in October last. Nore did they in the recent "recent sky is falling" episode.
- Visa Europe are NOT under the same pressures as VISA USA.
- Banking systems in Europe work VERY differently to the USA, fraud systems are more advanced and relationships between banks and credit providers much smoother.

Remember that European banks don't issue credit cards like raffle tickets as they do in US, Australia and others. Any one eber wondered why that is?

Why not think for a minute about WHO gains from the current path in the USA?? Who has the most to gain by tightening controls over our industry? It is not necessarily the same people who will bend over and take their pants down (understandably so I might add!) to protect tens of millions in monthly rebills.

Bear in mind that there are MANY industries (both on and offline) that make chargebacks and the like that we face look like an entry on the positive side of the ledger (i.e. they are MUCH worse!).

Like I said. Hard research people. I'll be buggered if I'm gonna do EVERYONE'S for them.

Just had to stop ICQ bouncing all over my screen

it sounds like this could have been prevented with proper planning. With all the money you all take in can't you afford backup generators?

I just did a quick search of GFY...

- today
- 27th August
- 21st August
- 19th August

That's 4 times in 3 weeks.

Its finally back up, sign ups up as well
They should do something about all these downtimes really, it really is affecting us. if i get 10 sign ups per day, will lose 4 due to downtime of 8-10 hours , and 4 times in 3 weeks? That's 12 in 3 weeks. Something to be done as backups? Verotel?

Power Outage? but not in amsterdam so thats bullshit, if its in amsterdam then its dutch news.

no news here, and what about UPS.

If visa dont take them down then all people will go away im seeing weekly threads about verotel down now. and always problems?

maybe its time for verotel to get a real system administrator instead of saying POWER OUTAGE

I had been with I-BILL for many years. When the new VISA and MASTERCARD changes were announced by I-Bill (with less than 30 days to comply)... I had to make a major decision.

I did not like the MasterCard regulation. Whereby I would work hard to sell a member.. and before they checked out, would be exposed to all competition. Again... this was my thinking in October 2002.

Ever since I-BILL was sold in March 2002, customer service had declined greatly. Perhaps hiring too many five dollars an hour employees with English as a second language. I had one loyal long-term member that got confused and called IBILL in June 2002... asking for his access info... instead he was canceled and was refunded three months. He complained to me, questioning me. I just wanted to curse I-BILL.

IBILL had many extended off-line periods as they prepared for the changes demanded by VISA/MASTERCARD.

I have been happy with Verotel. When ever I had a question or technical question, it was promptly taken care of successfully. Over the many months with them, I have had ZERO chargebacks.

Some have confirmed there was a power outage today in the Netherlands, yet some cry" the sky is falling", wanting verotel to fail as a processor.

I recall the many times IBILL was down to major software changes. I am NOT concerned that VEROTEL is down alot the past 2-4 weeks. It proves to me they are making changes to stay fully compliant.

My fifteen cents. Lets hope verotel survives this storm... or else if only I-BILL and CCBILL is left standing... sigh... watch your %
