FIA risks fucking up best F1 season in years.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/moto...ne/3196107.stm

Michelin are going ahead and using their existing tires for the next race.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/moto...ne/3201387.stm

It's pretty fucked up. A lot of the teams were already fed up with the FIA prior to this, and have been thinking about starting their own competition. If they disqualify the Williams and Mclaren drivers, as well as others, you can expect a very different season next year.

I hope they don't do it, 'cause this has been the best season in a very long time.

Oh, and it was Ferrari that made the complaint about the Michelins that caused this entire row.

You're an idiot. Ferrari and Bridgestone had previously denied that they were the ones that made the complaint, because they obviously realised it'd make them look like a bunch of crybaby bitches.

Tires have never been measured after the race. In the past, they've only been measured before the race. This is the way it has always been. The FIA suddenly changes their mind. It's bullshit.

Expect a new F1 championship without the FIA within 2 years if they disqualify the teams using Michelins. Then Ferrari and Minardi can race with eachother on their bridgestones all they want.

The FIA is a joke. Everything they do is so fucking vague.

man that would suck

was just thinking it's turning into a damn good finish to the season!

would be quite interesting if the bridgestones also got worn enough to make them go over the max width

Whatever the deal with the tyres, the FIA will do something diplomatic, someting that will avoid at all costs killing the Golden Goose.

Look at their decisions with Ralph and how they changed them.

I don't care who wins (would be best if it was Kimi), just as long as it isn't the german dickhead in the red car that wins I'll be happy.

It?s a real shame as Montreal is a really good circuit. In a few years time most F1 GP?s will be run in developing countries and the Far East as Bernie Ecclestone tops up his pension.

euro's spell tires a little strange ( Tyre??!!? )

but back to this rule.. If I read the article right, they were talking about the width of the tires (tyres for euro's ) when it's in use... I highly think it's possable that they designed there tires/tyres to spred out when they get hot.. therefore giving them a wider contact patch and more tracton.. and once they start to cool down they narrow back to the normal size.

remember in racing it's only cheating if you get caught.. could be the FIA realised these tires/tyres were doing something they wern't suposed to do.

i'm in total agreement.
best season for years.
i think bernie and max realise the positive effect this had had on tv viewership, so I wouldnt be expecting any hasty decision on the illegality of tires.

Fed up with the FIA and thinking of starting their own competition..?

Well fed up certainly but only because they want more money but the FIA will also regulate any new competition...so good old Max will still be around to fuck them over..

Oh and Big Schumi rules..

And the new competition organizers have already agreed to pay Ferrari a 'signing on fee' to join - something no other team was offered....basically no Ferrari, no competition

Ok here's the real story behind the tyre changes

Muchael Shumacher wasn't winning as much coz the other tyre companies had a nice new tyre so they thought they would ban them so Shummy wins again. Its all a conspiracy....

I fucking hate Schumacher! Go Couthard (he sucks as well but he is Scottish) or Montoya!

The thing is, the tyres are not illegal. The FIA's rules are so vague. They have a maximum width for the tyres. It's possible that the tyres may become wider with wear and tear during the race, or when they become distorted when they take a corner. That's pretty obvious. What the FIA needs to do is clarify their rules. They have to set a maximum for before the race, and stick by that. Because there is no way to determine how wide the tyres may become when cornering. It'll differ on every corner, and even on the same corner on a different day. Different track conditions, track temperature, how many laps the tyre has been used for, the speed at which the corner is being taken. It's just fucking impossible to ensure the tyre doesn't exceed a particular width at EVERY moment on the track. The FIA is retarded.

exactly, that's why I think it'd be funny if ferrari whinged and then they got blown out when their tyres wore to more than max width.

Indeed. The bridgestones are no different. They're also going to get wider as the race goes on. It'd be impossible to make a tyre that doesn't change in size over the race.

It's simply impossible to calculate how the race will change the tyre. The only rule that makes any sense is the one they've been using for years, and taht's to measure before the race.

The funniest thing to see is all these idiots going on about the michelins being illegal. The FIA itself has called the tyres illegal based on Ferrari's guess. The tyres haven't actually been measured after a race it. It's entirely speculation. I'd laugh so fucking hard if the michelins were legal and the bridgestones turned out to be illegal.

Attempting to have the governing body change the rules midway through a season so you can take out the competition is so fucking softcock.

How so? If they want to form their own competition without the FIA, then that's that. No FIA. It can happen, and if it turns out that the michelins are wider than the max width after the race, and they take away the points, there will be a new competition. I have no doubt about it. And the FIA will have sweet fuck all to do with it.

No, that just means they obviously realise the appeal of Ferrari, and that it'd be worth paying them money to sign on. But if Ferrari don't join, it would still go ahead. The F1 was extremely popular long before Ferrari were the top dogs, and it'll remain just as popular when they're no longer at the top, or even involved at all (which won't happen, but that's besides the point).

The FIA will be involved in the new cometition (if it happens) - they do not run motor racing competitions but they do regulate them be it F1, World Rally or whatever..it is like FIFA and UEFA in football...you want to set up a multi billon dollar event without them on side? Fat chance and the GWPC (or whatever its called) are not dumb to even go there....

Ferrari is the strongest world brand in racing - you want to pull in the TV punters in S America and Far East you need Ferrari which is why Bernie always gives them a break on revenue - he actually pays them a slice of what he rakes in, the other teams get natch..

Same for the new boys - they get Ferrari on side (and FIAT supports the GWPC) they are in the driving seat - if they don't they will struggle, hence the sweetner

And as for suggesting that Ferrari put pressure on Max and co to ban the tyres - surely not! The fact that Max and Charlie Whiting visited Ferrari on the 26th August and then Charlie sent a fax banning the tyres on the 27th is pure coincedence!

I love F1 - intrigue, back stabbing and the occaisonal motor race!

Illegal or not is not something I can answer.

But one thing is for sure, the tires are what's making the difference right now and allowing people to catch up to Ferrari.

1 kind of tire = everyone back behind ferrari.

my

(im not saying that would be a good thing, im just saying that ferrari still has a much better car)

Funny, I don't remember anyone screaming about how unfair it was when Ferrari was kicking butt on their Bridgestones the past few years. Now Michelin greatly improves (and it seems they did so within the rules - until Ferrari has the rules interpretation somewhat altered), and Ross Brawn cries like a little bitch.

The bad thing is that the onus will be on the Michelin teams to prove the tire wear is within the legal limits, and not on the FIA to prove that the sidewalls begin to make contact while under heavy cornering loads. Otherwise the Michelin teams could tell Mr Pussy Brawn to sit his ass down in the chicane over there, and measure the damn tread contact width when we come blowing thru there yourself.

Are you saying any motorsport is going to be regulated by the FIA, whether they like it or not? The FIA have nothing to do with Nascar, do they? It's not like they have some legal basis to just walk in and start regulating. If they want to get rid of the FIA, they will. And the issue with Ferrari. If all the teams using michelins swap over to a new championship, what.. you think Ferrari is just going to pull out of F1? Or race in a 2 team championship? Of course they're going to swap over as well. They're not wanting to get rid of ferrari, they want to get rid of the FIA.

OK for the last fucking time...the GWPC was set up by the manufacturers (including Ferrari/FIAT) to screw more money for themselves

The teams get around 47% of the revenue generated by F1 - the rest goes to Bernie

It is nothing to do with the FIA - the argument has nothing to do with the FIA - the GWPC are not going to fuck with the FIA it would not make business sense

Oh and quote:

"All forms of international motor sport involving land vehicles with four or more wheels come under the jurisdiction of the FIA"

end quote; source: fia website

You want to argue about what the FIA can and cannot do then take it up with them not me - what happens with American racing I have no idea and absolutely zero interest as I do not follow it

Their website says it, so it must be true? There are plenty of 4 wheeled motorsports that the FIA has nothing to do with. Last time i checked, Nascars had 4 wheels. And as far as i know, the FIA has nothing to do with Nascar. Correct me if i'm wrong though.

If the FIA fucks up this season, the teams will leave. Ferrari or no Ferrari. But Ferrari would follow, because they're not going to make any money in a competition with 2 teams. I've got no idea what the GWPC is. You keep mentioning it, but you're not actually making any sense.

time to watch NASCAR wrecks are way better and you can get in a crash and be in the race. F-1 is cool but NASCARs for beer drinking recnecks who liek to watch fiery crashes.

Best of all NASCAR is on Sunday most days and it beats church.

GWPC is the organisation set up to run the new competition oh and the earliest they can start is 2008 - and before you whine and say '..well they can start when they want'. They cannot. Everyone accepts this including the people who want to start the alternative competition. So no matter who fucks up what, the teams ain't going anywhere for another 5 years or so.

The FIA - OK motor sport worldwide has a ruling body. People in motor sport (weird as it may seem) accept this. The ruling body is the FIA. This is not my opinion it is simply a fact. In the US, like the other 100+ countries the FIA has representation, NASCAR and all the rest will have ruling bodies which will also sit on the FIA General Assembly and be affiliated to the FIA.

Ferrari need the other teams - correct. The other teams need Ferrari - definately. Do Ferrari have a foot in both camps? Yes and they will jump whichever way suits them best. Will the new competition avoid this sort of tyre argument? Dream on.

Are you saying it's impossible for them to setup a championship that doesn't involve the FIA? I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do it. Is there some sort of legal basis for it?

I wasn't aware that it would be until 2008. I honestly thought of would have been way before then. Bah.

Yep that is pretty much the case..the FIA is recognised by the UN and the EU as a consultative body on motor safety for example and has a lot of influence where it matters. The GWPC could mount a legal challenge to the FIA in an attempt to 'go it alone' but it would not make commercial sense to fight both Bernie and the FIA. If they did the FIA would tie them in legal knots over safety issues and whatever else they could think of (not to mention the circuit owners who are not going to piss of the FIA for fear of the rest of their racing calender being terminated). Besides the GWPC need an outside body to ajudicate on disputes, rulings etc and as I said the GWPC do not have an issue with the FIA its just Bernie and revenue share

Bernie has the teams by the balls contractually until 2007 plus the teams sponsers are in it for the F1 circus - so legal minefield if the teams attempt to go before that. Bernie wants the teams to re-sign a new agreement beyond 2007 but no one is going to at this stage! With all this shit going on its amazing any motor racing ever happens

Fuck I sound like a motor racing anorak!

Fuck I am a motor racing anorak!
