What is the make and model of your "dsl modem"? Also, do you have static IPs or dynamic IPs?

Why don't you want to use a router? You can pick up a Linksys router for $40.

Just plugging in the cable doesn't magically put you on the network.

Are you planning on sharing one IP or not? If so, does your gateway machine have 2 NIC's in it?

I have the same setup in one of my offices. I use a hub to connect the other computers to the DSL modem.

What I'd do is make the XP machine be the one that is connected to the net and enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).

Then on the other machines, MANUALLY specify the gateway IP of the XP machine and appropriate DNS servers. To find those, simply go on the XP machine while it's connected to the net, launch a command prompt (start -> run -> cmd) then type "ipconfig /all" while in command prompt. It will give you the DNS servers (usually 2 of them).

Put those numbers in the lan card config in your other machines. Reboot.

Should work.

You can contact me by ICQ 111333 if you have other questions.

It makes a big difference weather or not you have multiple ips for use ;).

You can either
A) Buy a hub and use 3 seperate IPs
B) Install 2 network cards and a hub(internet into nic 1, internal lan from nic to to hub)
C) Go get a stinkin router ;)
