A *lot* more women are going to college than men. Most state schools are 60%+ female. However most of the women are majoring in liberal arts, guys still dominate the engineering and often business colleges.

Todays parents are not raising their children with the " women have to get married only mentality " of the pre-80s . Hell, I remember in the early 80's that my parents never paid a dime for my college and pushed the getting married shit..

My youngest girl is a genius in Math and Science. She had a 12th grade comphrension of math in the 2nd grade. I think alot girls are using their brains to their fullest potential because of the quality of parenting and current pre college school education...

My dad's best friend was always saying I should be an Veterinarian. I never realized what potential he must have seen in me till I had my kids...

Exactly. And probably more women end up not doing the job related to their education, compared to men.

there are still a LOT less women in those positions. it's not that we're taking over - we're finally taking part. not even 25% of upper management are women, and of the highest execs, still very few. and how many women governors have we had? not exactly half ;-)

besides engineering, most women in music are singers, songerwriters or keyboardists. a few more are bassists, and very few are guitar players. i play guitar - have since i was a kid - and guitar stores would ask me who the guy i was buying strings for was when i'd buy my strings. one day i was buying an amp, a salesman asked me that, and i told him that if i needed a dick to play guitar, i'd simply buy a strapon, but i didn't need someone else to play guitar for me. he went away *grin*

women aren't really welcome in engineering. i've known two women engineers - one was my mom - and they were treated like shit by the younger guys they worked with.

it ain't a welcome world for women out there...

Alot of the blame needs to be pointed at the man,

For years women couldn't own property, vote, or even hold a particular job.

Think about all the on the job sexual harassment men put on their good looking female employees to hold them down

I just got back from class, I swear to you 80% of my field is women. As a matter of fact I was sitting there today and I realized that I was completely surrounded by women. BUT, women in the social sciences are largely nurturer ultra pc sensitive whiners or pissed off feminists.

Want to see tons of women, swing by the psych, english, or education departments.

The "hard" sciences are sausage fests.

In my psych courses in 1994 and 1999, most students were female. However, most of THOSE planned to go into developmental psych and perhaps use that to go on to teaching.

My sociology teacher was a raving feminist. Pissed me off. So I did my term paper on how dual-income families were more harmful to society in the long run than single income families. She freaked and monopolized question period after my presentation. So the feeling was definitely mutual.

In my computer science and systems courses, I had ummm one female teacher, and it was for Visual Basic, which is Basically really really easy. Also the accounting courses were all taught by men, as was economics. The only department that I thought was fairly divided (that I took part in) was English/Lit. Oh, and my calculus teacher was female and DAMN HARD, but fair.

I'd love to see mor female teachers out there, but I guess it just takes time.

Ahhhahaha! That statement totally made me chuckle.

School starts tomorrow. YAY!

I tell ya, either parent, male or female will naturally have it a little tougher if they are the primary caregiver of their kids. It's hard to climb the ladder in any job when you have to run home early because of a sick child or playground injury, etc. You have to put forth more effort and time than the masses in order to be considered for promotion. That's the main reason women are a bit behind. They had bigger responsibilities that you can never call in sick for.

Actually it's getting worse. Computer Science is the only field of engineering where the % of women has been declining for the past decade or two, and now its down to the level it was in the 70's.
Something makes computer science different than other engineering fields somehow.

On a second note, amongst all of the computer science people in the industry that have a college degree other than computer science, most of them have a degree in Music!

Just the thought of Hillary Clinton in the Oval Office gives me hives. I can only hope that she's assassinated before she does anything like signing shit. Matter of fact, avoid the rush and just off her now.

Not only are we taking over the world but, we are becoming more and more prominent in the audlt industry which, is an industry usually thought of as being solely male run.

Over the last few months the industry has seen more and more forums and resources being developed to assist females in the adult industry such as my own site, whether they be content models, company ceo's or support reps.

My feeling are that this is a good things as it is now showing that men and women can work together in an industry such as our without any ill feelings towards each and, ultimately, assist each other to make money.

Why refuse to do business with someone based on their gender or sexual orientation when all is said and done, we all have the same main goal - to make money.

Wether that money is made by a woman or a man has no bearing on my business the only thing that has a bearing is the fact that money has been made.

Oh and just because somebody is bound to ask here you go.....

the ultra left media has raised men with reduced masculinity. Basically castrated them. Men used to be real men, that didnt take shit and took care of their responsiblities. Now alot of guys are bitches.

In my experience, women Ive known cant handle any pressure. Most of the real successful women seem to be femi-nazis or closet dykes.

New research in evolution shows that women are slowly getting closer to asexual reproduction. It's predicted that in about 125,000 years only 10% of the human population will be males and noone will really need them other than to get laid from time to time.

I wanna be one of those guys

It is known as making a virtue out of a necessity. Until the late '50s, most middle-class families did not need a second income to achieve what was then considered to be a reasonable standard of living. Now, many families struggle even with two incomes.

So we pay only lip service to the values of family and parenting that were held less than 50 years ago. These days a woman who is not successful at work is made to feel as guilty as a woman did then who was successful outside the home. Ironically she has no more choice today as to how she spends her life, than she had then. The prescription is simply a different one.

I'm not trying to try to judge what a woman's role should be, if indeed there is any "should" about it. My point is that while we believe we are making personal choices, the vast majority are simply being driven along by current custom. There is little choice involved.

And the shift has some serious downsides. There are fewer jobs today than 50 years ago, so while many families have two incomes, many now have no income at all. This is part of the reason why 1 in 8 Americans now live below the official poverty line and why the gap between rich and poor continues to widen.

We haven't dealt with the question of children too well either. 150 years ago nannies and governesses were not unusual among the better off. The present concept of family and parents caring directly for their children spread upwards from the poor after WW1, also as a matter of economic necessity. We still live pretty much as if Mom will be home when the kids finish school, except that of course, usually she isn't any more.

No-one fully knows yet to what extent, if any, this impacts on children and in the long run, on society in general. But the fact remains that traditional school hours and holidays were relevant to a life-style that for most of us is past. We haven't yet tried to tackle this disparity.

You could go even so far as to say that children themselves are increasingly irrelevant too. And if our genes and hormones would give us a break, the size of families would likely decline at an even faster rate.
