![]() is there a way to work out how much additional server strain a cron job will put on a server?
say i only want to cron a single script every 5 - 10 - 15 - 20 mins or whatever is there a forumula to work out the additional server load time? tia. |

Put this in your crontab....
[email protected] */5 * * * * time /path/to/script.pl An email will be sent to you every 5 minutes with how much cpu time the script used. |

You could setup Larrd and have it keep track of server load on 1-5 minute increments and graph them.

Cron will not stress the server, the script it executes will. Log into the shell, type top and monitor the load the script causes.
