you don't need a repeater unless you're running a seriously long run.. like at least a thousand feet. i've got a 100 foot run here, works just fine.

Could be a cabling issue. Cat 5 specs are pretty straight foward butcheck to be sure your punches are clean and you have no protruding wires. The little wire end that might not have been cut off can cause enough of a problem to make for intermittent bit errors.
If you need more say so and I will email you my ICQ |

I got one downstairs and your average cat5 cable (75') does the trick fine...although sometimes that computer is a bit slower than the rest...but overall not a big issue... repeater would be overkill imo....

Are you using a hub, or just going straight from the router downstairs?

try hooking it up to your comp straight from the router upstairs. Eliminate one router. If you still have problems going from the router upstairs, straight to your comp in the basement, then go straight from the cable modem to the comp in the basement. If you still have problems, it may be the ethernet cable. ![]()

Then just run that 100ft ethernet cable from the cable modem right to your computer in the basement. If it does not work, it is either your cable, your modem, or the ethernet cable.

Start with a direct connection from the cable modem to the comp in the basement. If it works, then add your router upstairs. If it still works, then add the one in the basement...if it stops, you know the culprit. You are making this more complicated than it really is.
