Missy Elliot beats out Johnny Cash

Clearly, I think MTV affirmed what regular MTV viewers already knew. Johnny Cash is a flash in the pan with no real impact on music or its history, and is basically a sell out who only cares about radio and tv airtime. He may have gotten a little bit of popularity from ripping off a NIN song, but he isn't original or a real musical artist like Elliot, Coldplay, Timberlake, or The White Stripes.

On the otherhand, Missy Elliot and Justin Timberlake are long term musical stars who only care about the quality of their music, not whether it will be popular on the radio/mtv. They have already altered the course of musical history, and will be around for decades making awesome contributions to the record industry.

As usual, another excellent decision by MTV and its well educated viewers and staff!

your sarcasm is duly noted.

i saw johnny cash and june carter cash play at a local church in 1995, and even as old and frail as they were getting he still kicked major ass.

mtv is in the advertising selling business, and unfortunately johnny cash's record selling days are behind him, so no ads.

in 50 years people will still be listening to johnny cash. in 50 weeks nobody will remember missy elliot and justin timberlake.

Wanna bet?
Missy will be around for a long time.
She's unique, and people like that.

Justin.. well, he's young, and hooking up with the right producers, so he'll be around for quite some time as well.

Its a Video award. Not an award for the name or for the history or for the song.

Cash was lucky just to be nominated.

Good song, much respected name, but come on he's not about videos nor should he be. This is a Video award.

Id be shocked if he won. The video really shouldnt have even been nominated if it was based truly on Videos alone anyhow.
I was like WTF? IT would have been nice to give em a lifetime achievement award at this time but to see him not win overall was not a shock.

His live performance was one of the more hyped up performances in the previous weeks. That is until he pulled out last minute.

Bhaaaaa. Cash.. He couldnt even make it cause his lungs were bad.

No respect.

Even Justin Timberlake called it a travesty when he beat out Cash.
Missy Elliot's video may have been "cool" but how many videos have had the emotional punch that "Hurt" does?
That video is as kick-ass as a video can get without needing a bunch of funky special effects and techniques. It tells a powerful story.
Not dissing Missy Elliot as a performer but I saw her video the other day and it wasn't much better than a million others I have seen.

For those without a clue.. I do believe SonOfRage was being sarcastic in his post (or at least I hope he was)

You seem to forget that it is the MTV music awards. It's called Music Television yet they play like 3 hours of music videos a day lol

Fuck who cares it's some trendy company, not like they'd actually give the love to talent

If cash would get up off his ass and dance on the video maybe he would have won.

Lazy fucking bastard.

No handouts.

Besides MTV is geared towards Middle School Girls, High School kids, and Older Male Pervs like myself and most of the people here at GFY.

Cash doesnt give me a woody like the gals and Timberlake does.
