When making gallerys for sponsers, using there content, are you allowed to alter any of it, to maybe make a banner for the top of the gallery etc.?

Depends on the rights that the sponsor has for the content. Ask your sponsor.

Take a look at your sponsors TOS. If you find nothing, then email them and ask, but dont assume you are allowed to alter their content.
