3rd party counter that tracks multiple pages with referrers
I'm looking for a drop-in counter that can show traffic flow patterns... So I can see how many hits a referrer sent maybe page 3 levels deep into my site...

I haven't signed up but here's what it says "Our unmatched navigational stats allow you to see on which page your surfers enter your site and exit your site. You can also see the paths which they follow around your website, page by page. Knowing where your surfers go on your site, and where they leave can help you increase member retension. "
BUT we'll see if this actually tags the referrer info to the navigational info... so I can see who is sending quality traffic and who is sending shit... |

From a programmer's point of view -- you would have to associate the referrer with the IP -- or insert the referrer into the cookie... then have a separate toplist for each page that's being tracked... And of course I'd like to do all this without using CGI links for the navigational pages...
If there's no realtime/3rd party solution, what's the best option for log-file analysis...? |

Our stats are multipage, however referers are shown overall for each site.
What you are asking for is not really "referers". When a sufer is 3 pages deep into your site, the "referer" for the 3rd page his is the second page (the one he click the link on to get the 3rd page). I think what you want to find out is how many pages a person hits on your site from referer x, y, or z? Is this correct? |

Doing overall referers for an entire site is too simplistic -- an img-src tag or hidden frame could fake that -- that's useless info!!! |

Hey TheFly,
If I understand correctly, basically what you want is to have the referrer of the first request to your site tagged to every single page request on your site, so you can check what original referrer a person hitting any page came from. Is this about what you want? An interesting idea if that is what you want... let me know, and if it is, wait for a day or so and you might just have something ;)

For each page on the site you would need a toplist of the original referers (tagged) and the direct referers (oldschool) You might do this... URL ABC 50 hits original-referer blah1.com/whatever.html 40 hits original-referer blah2.com/stuff.html 10 hits direct-referer google.com/tumadre.html It might seem like I'm asking a lot, but this would be a VERY useful tool that I'd use myself and I'd recommend all new webmasters to use this tool also... |

I did answer your original post. "I think what you want to find out is how many pages a person hits on your site from referer x, y, or z? Is this correct?" And my response was: "Sure the cgi referer is always the previous page -- but what good is that information? That's obvious. I should be able to know how many hits xyz.com referred to a page 3 levels deep into my site..." Notice that I said "cgi referer" -- your server is always going to tell you the previous page, but please tell me when that information would ever be useful...? How is the cgi referer useful on for example a CC signup page that is never linked to from outside the site...? It would be WAY MORE useful to have all the original referrers listed in a toplist format for each URL on the site so you can see where the traffic is coming from. You could track this all by following the IP on the server with perhaps a database, or you could just insert a cookie when the surfer hits the site for the first time -- and read that cookie on every page that needed "tagged referrer" tracking... Your original post pissed me off because you assumed that I didn't know what the fuck I was talking about. "I think what you want to find out is how many pages a person hits on your site from referer x, y, or z? Is this correct?" Maybe I should have just said "No." Maybe this was not clear enough: "I'm looking for a drop-in counter that can show <b>traffic flow patterns</b>... <b>So I can see how many hits a referrer sent maybe page 3 levels deep</b> into my site..." Anyhow I think we have clarified this now -- and it's not like I'm begging for anyone to code this... If nobody has coded this idea yet, it really NEEDS to be done -- and I've just given out a free idea that's worth $$$. Any coders with a 3rd party counter should be grateful that I'm throwing new ideas out into the open like this (if in fact it is a new idea and it hasn't been already implemented, in which case it would be nice if somebody just posted where I can go to get the software). |

I've had a few webmasters offer to pay me thousand$ to essentially code something that would track affiliate codes through a paysite tour... Instead of re-inventing the wheel -- all we need is a 3rd party counter that tags the original referrer either by IP or by cookie, connecting that useful information to important pages like signup forms, niche category links, hitbot traps, etc.

Hey TheFLY,
we will look into this and see how we can incorporate those stats the best way. I'll let you know.

I know GFY can be a hostile place at times, but don't always assume everyone is out to be an asshole. I was just trying to fully understand what you wanted, thats why I asked you. Anyway, I think you're talking with Nathan (the actual programmer behind the site) on this feature, so I'll let you continue it with him. |

Hi TheFly,
we finally did what you suggested.. Log in to your PornGraph stats, go to Page Stats (Pages link). There you see a breakdown of all pages the counter is on, and you see two links next to the urls: P and Ref. P will give you all paths with the referrer inside and Ref will give you a list of Traffic Sources for this page. Meaning how many hits to the page came from which referrer and also how many new visitors that cam to that page came from which referrer. This is still experimental and in beta! But it looks to be working. Also, in case anyone wants to know, PornGraph now has Week and Month stats for Referrers and such. Both total top stats for a Week or a Month but also, a comparision of all days of that week or month for a single referrer or the like. Just check it out, it kicks ass ;)

Haha, Pete.. You stole my idea for TGP galleries I was using.
![]() Naw.. old idea, but it's actually kinda a tough problem. Well, not so really, until you want to track clicks OUT to sponsors/partners/whatever. I should give you my old code, you can probably modify it for your needs. Does mostly what you want, but you'd have to tweak it some. I have a new "version" I've been pecking at here and there when I get sick of my other work that won't require cookies or anything, all server-side (but a bit more CPU intensive unfortunately) So yeah, with a bit of hacking I pretty much have what you want. it's certainly not drop-in and good to go though. -Phil
