Nice one.
I did answer your original post.
"I think what you want to find out is how many pages a person hits on your site from referer x, y, or z? Is this correct?"
And my response was:
"Sure the cgi referer is always the previous page -- but what good is that information? That's obvious. I should be able to know how many hits xyz.com referred to a page 3 levels deep into my site..."
Notice that I said "cgi referer" -- your server is always going to tell you the previous page, but please tell me when that information would ever be useful...? How is the cgi referer useful on for example a CC signup page that is never linked to from outside the site...? It would be WAY MORE useful to have all the original referrers listed in a toplist format for each URL on the site so you can see where the traffic is coming from. You could track this all by following the IP on the server with perhaps a database, or you could just insert a cookie when the surfer hits the site for the first time -- and read that cookie on every page that needed "tagged referrer" tracking...
Your original post pissed me off because you assumed that I didn't know what the fuck I was talking about.
"I think what you want to find out is how many pages a person hits on your site from referer x, y, or z? Is this correct?"
Maybe I should have just said "No."
Maybe this was not clear enough: "I'm looking for a drop-in counter that can show traffic flow patterns... So I can see how many hits a referrer sent maybe page 3 levels deep into my site..."
Anyhow I think we have clarified this now -- and it's not like I'm begging for anyone to code this... If nobody has coded this idea yet, it really NEEDS to be done -- and I've just given out a free idea that's worth $$$. Any coders with a 3rd party counter should be grateful that I'm throwing new ideas out into the open like this (if in fact it is a new idea and it hasn't been already implemented, in which case it would be nice if somebody just posted where I can go to get the software).
