It's not the colour of the skin that makes the difference.

It's because they are poor. Look at the records and see how many of prison inmates come from low income families and areas.

People money, do not do the crime and have more chance of getting away with it.

i agree to an extent.... i dont have a point so dont read into the following, im just posting observations in hopes one of you can take it and make something with the info...

while i think an overwhelming % of prison inmates, no matter what race, come from low-income houses and areas, i also can't help but notice that 90% of ppl in thailand are dirt poor (make less than $100USD a month) and there is VERY low violent crime rate here.... now the 'environment' here is laid back and happy, as is custom here.... so maybe this counter to the 'poor ppl commit crimes mainly' theory only supports the 'people are a product of their environment' theory.....

im going to have to go with the 'people are a product of their environment' theory...

I might go for 3 years sometime around october. I'm white though and I come from a pretty nice area. I'm 19 right now and never really got in trouble growing up. My girlfriend is from a very rich town though and surprisingly alot of kids there around my age are getting locked up. I think society's just changing for the worse while law enforcement's getting tougher.

All you older guys, imagine getting caught in your college years with an ounce of weed. Would any of you even imagined getting 3 years in jail for that?

I tend to agree that people are mostly the product of their environment, environment being everything/everyone that's surrounded them since they were born. Though i don't think money is essential for a healthy environment, i know this might sound like blasphemy here. :-)

You need a government that is more concerned about the people and not the personal wealth of a selected few.

If someone has the feeling that society has given up on him due to where he was born, race or other factors why should he live by the community standards?

The US has to get the school system up and running again. Schools are supposed to look like you can learn something and not like high security prisons.
