Why does rebooting Windows XP make it 100x faster?

I shouldn't have to reboot my machine just to make it run faster

I've got XP Pro and reboot about every 4 days. No real need, just for general purposes.
Not sure what's up with yours.

Try Start -> Run -> msconfig
Check the startup tab and uncheck all of the unnecessary shit that's starting on bootup and running constantly in the background.
Hit okay, restart.

Should run much faster.

I never reboot my machine, unless the power goes out, and it constantly runs fast. My secret is a little program called rambooster

I almost never get errors or slowdowns on my PC because I always clean it up first, delete background programs, and chock my system full of RAM.

Most of the time, slowdowns and errors occur because PC users are n00bish when it comes to sending their PC through a diet (cleaning bground programs, etc.).

You know I was thinking about it -- last time I rebooted was probably 3 weeks ago! I guess I can't complain too much about rebooting -- but there's always room for improvement

I agree -- but that doesn't excuse "memory leak" type slowness that slowly grinds your machine to a hault over time...

Probably there is some new critter on my machine causing it to slow down but I don't have the faintest idea what it is... Norton/Zone Alarm didn't catch anything...

Ah sweet memory leaks! How I've missed thee.

Dumbed down version (easier to explain not that anyone is stupid...sigh):

Hi I'm windows, I live on your computer, I eat, sleep, shit, piss, shower and do all kinds of other crap in here that you have no idea about. To top it all off...I don't clean up after myself. The fact that I don't clean up after myself is what makes your computer slow down. In a word, nothing can get by because there's too much junk cluttering up the pathways in and around your house. In otherwords you better clean your shit up. Rebooting cleans house.

Maybe you should look into some of those video professor courses. Cause it's apparent, your computer skills are minimal.

Fly, i have found it really depends on what else i am running with it. For example, if i do 4-5 hours of surfing with netcaptor i start bogging down and need to reboot. But the same thing with ie alone is no problem. Same thing with dreamweaver and a few other progs. I have tried various ram programs and some of them do help, but i suspect there is more involved than just memory. Windows is so frigging bloated there is no telling all the stuff thats going on with hours of use, especially when other progs come into play. But at least its better that win98 was, although that aint saying much.

either does my xp
people say xp sucks because it comes with a lot of extras that some people like
if they knew how to disable all that extra shit, there wouldnt be a problem
i actually had more problems with 2k than xp
lots of crashes and reboots, followed by screens saying i need to reboot again and run chkdsk again
fuck that noise
