(a) Yes, there is little doubt there is a lack of sight and experience of the real world. Again, a generalisation, since I know of many who are aware. At the same time I am tired of explaining to some that London is not part of Paris and a Caribbean Island is not in the Indian Ocean. The sad truth is many US people can't even point to Washington on a map or know the State next to where they live. Even the President did not know that the people of Greece were not "Grecians". What hope of even beginning to understand any other nations???

(b) Another assumption that the "US is the protector of freedoms". In some instances this has been correct. However, the US has nothing but a trail of disaster in other countries and is usually involved for nothing more than greed. You don't have to look far to see this - but don't rely on CNN.

(c) Your opinions of "free" leave a lot to be desired. There is no other country in the western world that is less free than the US. This lack of freedom ranges from privacy to imprisonment without trial. The US is also the country which, by far, has reached all records in imprisoning it's own citizens. It also hounds them to all parts of the globe for tax revenue - a practice only used by three "third world" countries.

(d) There is no other country in the western would that "babysits" and "controls" it's citizens more than the US - to the point of absurdity. This is a kinda joke when others see it.

If you consider this is "freedom" and "experience of the real world" - you need to get some of that sight and experience before saying any more. But suppose it is what some are "used to".

i am proud to be an american.

i am proud that my family came to this country which allowed me to be born here.

i am proud of the freedom i have and i am beyond appreciative to those who made this freedom possible.

Economically America as a whole has a lot of wealth, but it is not widely held. The majority of the wealth is held by a small percentage of the population. I've seen more blatant poverty in America that any other western country. Plenty of roads full of potholes and cracks, vacant lots, run down neighborhoods, etc...

The legal drinking age is 21.

A rediculous number of people are in prison for silly drug offences.

Markets crash financially during disasters. If some major attack happened in London or Tokyo the market would crash much the same as it did after 9/11

I never knew the US was "known" for it's "medical assistance"?? The government cannnot even provide decent healthcare for it's own citizens. (That is not to say there are not excellent docs there doing good stuff!) However, for a "claimed leader" in the western world, the healthcare system is a joke. Pro rata, there are more US folks coming to where I live for decent "healthcare".

US has many good things... same as any country. It also has it's quota of crap stuff. Basically, like any country, it has little to be proud of - but the "upfront claims" might be the reason some choose to "attack" it - simply because these claims just have no truth.

Sure, we pay a little more tax, but we also get benefits in return. I don't mind contributing to a universal healthcare system that works. It means I save on private health insurance. I also don't mind contributing to a welfare system that means that we don't have people on our streets begging for spare change.

It all depends on your priorities I guess.

i never said other countries were worse nor am i trying to make other countries look worse. all countries can do that on their own without my expressed opinion (including the country i live in).

i am 100% for my country and as for asking why? well that goes without saying. there are some countries i think need adjusting in their thinking and france is at the top of my list. that does not mean i do not like french people for the one's i have come in contact with have not been the stereotyped people i hear about.

i do not like reading, hearing or seeing other countries put down america and it's americans for the sole reason that we have done so much for other countries and at times, it seems as if we are doing more for others then we are our own. being american, i can voice that without fear. has our government been reckless? at times, definitely. has this country recooped and moved on? without hesitation!

i want you all to think for a minute....on 9-11 there was no looting, rioting or crime of any kind and in a city where this is most possible, it didnt happen. we had people all over this country wanting to help (some with ulterior motives i am sure) and as a country, we didn't let this circumstance devastate us. now, take a look at the middle east, asia and even europe (where in northern england pakastan's and palistines who reside there still believe in arranged marriages and will kill their daughters if they run away and marry outside the arrangement...i have the article to prove this) and tell me if they would handle the situation the same as we did when arranged marriages are still believed in? i am not saying that living in another country is a bad thing and that everyone should come to america. i think we have enough people comming over here and not with the best intentions (which is obvious).

i am sure those living outside the us are quite content and that is the way it should be. however, dont scream anti american when we have done more good for those outside of our walls then harm. and if those govt's think that our govt is the evil empire, then dont come to us for assistance of any kind. you cant eat your cake and have it to. just doesnt work that way.
