Gallery People - is it just me? - GoFuckYourself.com

Back in early April, I ordered a bunch of design from Gallery People (www.gallerypeople.com), largely due to the testimonials on their site. The order was for a 3 page tour, member area template, mailer template, 2 HPAs, 1 FPA, 3 banners, 10 BYOT pages, 50 galleries.

Well, I have still received nothing. Every now and then they pop up in ICQ and say 'we'll have something ready for you to see on Friday'. This has happened three times since April and nothing has turned up. The 3 page tour was apparently all but finished, then it was two of the BYOTs that were nearly ready, then there was a problem because I hadn't given them access to my server for the content (I had, and they had accessed the server, but said they hadn't - why it would have taken three months for them to notice they didn't have access if they really didn't I do not know), then they couldn't even start on the BYOTs without some domain names to work with... etc etc etc

Frankly, it smacks of bullshit and I think my $900 has disappeared for good. Despite my frequent chase ups on ICQ and email, nothing happens. I have now asked them outright whether they ever intend to fill the order or refund me, no response.

Is it just me or are these people just rip off merchants? And if so, does GreenGuy know his good name is being used to further their scam?

Man those people seem to have ripped a number of people.

live and learn I guess. I have read personal accounts of multiple people ripped for close to a grand or more each.

I have been ripped off as well.

I ordered Galleries around 8 months ago.

Manyl others have also...
At least one person I know, did a chargeback.
So they have recouperated thier money. I feel like a fool.

I think it is pretty fucked up to have testimonials from Green Guy and others when this is so obviously a ripoff.

I know he has had some medical issues, so fucking what.
My sympathy ended months ago...

If you can't do the work, refund the money.
Otherwise you are a rip off.... simple.

900.00... should have known it was a scam... that is a lot of work for 900.00....

Next time you need work done... ICQ me... I would have changed a bit more for that... but I would have provided the service that you paid for in a timely fashion and given you quality work...

Pay designers 10% to start & only work with people within the GFY community

Some people wind up taking an unacceptably long time to get things done when they get paid too much (or everything) in advance.

And then when they finally do get around to doing the work they agreed too, its a rush job since they are so far behind.

Even if you paid them nothing to start, the designer is still protected because he/she can show you the completed design, without giving you the psd's until you pay.

The designer would still own the copyright for the design(s) if you did not pay as well -- you could get into some trouble if you used the design without paying.

So taking that into consideration - pay as little as possible (preferably nothing) up front & watch how fast your design work gets done.

Fletch XXX is a good guy to deal with. I never hesitate to recommend him to any asking about gallery/design work.

The Gallery People wanted the money through PayPal.
PayPal has a 30 day limit. You can't do a chargeback after that.

I never understood the half up front theory for design work. I always take the job, get it finished...then negotiate price. That way I have what they want and they have what I want. I would hate the pressure of having a clients money and not having the design done. Plus I think it prompts inferior work.

I've never had an unhappy client with a design on their hands they didn't love. Because if they didn't like the output they didn't pay for it till it was redone to their liking.

Hindsight being 20/20, always stick with the names you know and start charging back after 50 days.

well man, sorry to hear that, but it's your fault and nothing by your fault, you can't be as naive to believe you'd get that work for just 900 bucks. Or in the best scenario, you'd have the work done in a year or so. Now you learn that you'd still need to pay the regular price plus the 900 you spent for being that cheap, not to mention the time you had to wait for nothing.

If you still need that, we'd do it for just 1500 just because you had a big loss already (and you'll know what is a job properly done, so I'm sure you'll hire us again

) Anyway, hope you learn the lesson, too bad it had to be the hard way

I must be the only one that every got anything from them. I got a several tgp's and free site's made. Maybe because they were only a small job Joe was able to do them. He did tell me a couple of months ago that he had some bad news health wise and was going to have to get out of the biz and that he could not guarantee any future work for me.

Oh really? Damn, it must have just been a fluke all those times I've had programming work, data work, design work, telecoms work, etc etc done by Ukrainians and Indians at 25% of Western prices and RECEIVED A GREAT JOB.

Not everybody charges US prices, in fact the majority of the world don't. I made a mistake in assuming that Gallery People were not American. Believe me, I try to avoid using Yanks wherever possible :-)
