switching back to cable, this could suck...

from adsl. got a cheap deal on a big company reselling the local company's stuff. and better than local, because they put all kinds of restraints on the line, these guys don't. it will be a hell of a lot faster and cheaper, but i'm afraid it's going to be a lot less reliabe

Well, I just recently have switched back to cable, and I have less connection problems than when I had dsl. Go for it, it might suprise you like it did me.

i prefer cable, because shit, around here you can pull 3.5+ mb downloads... fucking rocks. but it was down a lot. and this was a business line, a line they knew people ran servers and stuff on. but it was down like 2-3 times / week. one of my friends has had a new install, and had a few down times recently. ugh.

but yes, dsl is horribly slow. that, and since i hate the telco here, i'm saying fuck them and killing my land line as well. no sense, i have a cellphone, who needs the land line. save me $100 a month.

that's true. but, i can save over $50 a month, and don't have to pay "the man" anymore. i spent about 10 hours of my time getting this line running, and cash on hardware for the line that i shouldn't have, and all i got was a lousy free month of dsl

i'm tired of the speed though.. it's broadband and half the time i don't get speeds a whole lot faster than a dial-up modem for file transfers... web pages are fairly fast, but file transfers blow.

edit: do a speed test on your cable line. here it's rated 2mb down/384 up, but i was regularly getting 3.5+mb down

oh yeah, word of advice on cable. go buy your own cable modem instead of renting one. my cable co charges 15 a month for the modem but i bought one for 70.

i am using a netgear mr814 wireless broadband router and have all of my machines - and my neighbor's! - online with ease. the netgear has auto configuration. plug and play man!

Cable is better unless you can get faster then the standard 1.5 dsl connection then dsl is better.

I've used both roadrunner & cox and they both haven't let me down. Maybe been down 10 times max over 4 years and never for very long (10-30mins max)
