If you take the lump sum option from the California lottery, then 91 million would actually get you approx: 22.75 million.

The cash option immediately cuts the money in half. Now deduct 40% for tax. The rest is yours.

Sure it's a lot of money, but damnit man.. don't advertise $91m if I'm going to end up with $25m! It's like misrepresenting the truth.

We're the only country in the world that advertises annuity jackpots instead of cash value jackpots. And we're one of the few (if not the only one) that taxes lottery winnings.

I saw the woman on TV. Doesn't look too smart. She was living in a motel for the last 3 years. Con artists, greedy family, and frivilous spending will rid her of all that pesky money within a year.... unless she hires a financial planner and takes his/her advice.

Yeah it's nice to see a story where someone who actually needed the money wins.. Very rare.

There was a guy that won like 25 million. His story was that he was just released from jail like a week before. His 15 yr old daughter asked him for a pc and he had to tell her he could not afford to get her one. The he won the lotto. When they asked him what he would do first. He said I am going to best buy to get the pc for my kid.

Wonder if he actually made it there??
