Western Union

What do you think of Western Union as a way to send money worldwide? I live in Portugal and I use paypal, but I cant withdraw and that sucks.
If I start asking for western union when I sell templates, submissions, etc... do you think webmasters will go for it? They can send the money online or by phone, so it shouldnt be a problem, right?

#1 is not true. Like I said, they can pay online and by phone using a CC as long they have an US account.

#2 is true, but I rather pay for a big part of the fees myself and maybe raise my prices a little, than get more money on paypal that I can only use online. I use that for hosting, content, etc... but I want to buy a couple of drinks too and I need real money.

What do you mean by a deal? Can you help me cash paypal money?

#1 is true for you though, you will need to drive to the post office to pick up the money. I think it only stays there for 2 weeks by default or so.

The fee for sending cash starts at about $15-20 (depends on locations) no matter the amount. Why not use 2Checkout?

I am willing to walk 2m to the nearest post office to collect the money. That's not a problem.

I'm looking at 2Checkout now. Anyone else using that?

You have to understand that all the options I know have drawbacks. I'm looking for something that allows me to receive real money in Portugal, as fast as possible. So I guess high fees is the price to pay. It's still better than having lots of money on a paypal account that I cant withdraw from and that can be shutdown anytime.

2Checkout ($50 to join) sends out checks or wire transfers every 2 weeks, it's about $35 per wire transfer (check is free), the higher the amount the less it costs though. 5.5% Fee per transaction, they also temporarily keep 5% at every withdrawal for 3 months for security. People with no credit cards can pay them by check.

Paypal is better/cheaper, but 2Checkout is ok.

Western Onion is shit mate... The operators hardly ever pay out, instead they give excuses like,

"The guy spelled your name with one T instead of two, he'll have to send again"

Yawn... Another trip.

You should consider MoneyGram - same deal as WU but significantly lower fees to many countries. Also, why not do a bank wire?

You could also think about setting up a bank account in a country that paypal supports for withdrawals (Netherlands, Switzerland).
That way you can get money to a safe account and withdraw it from an ATM in your own country.

For switzerland you could look at Swiss Post for example. They are used to supporting foreign clients, have electronic banking and so on.

Thanks for all the replies, now I have some more options to consider

I oppened a swiss account, every millionaire has one, and so do I Now I have to wait until I get a letter from them, sign the papers, and send it back. Then I'll try to withdraw from paypal into that and wire to my portuguese account. It should work...

If you have other ideas, keep them coming, I think this thread could be usefull to many non-US webmasters.

Maybe it could work, if everyone else was using it. But even after all the problems, all my clients use paypal.

All your customers are from the US..nice keep in mind you can't send money thru a site everywhere...

2º Goodluck paying the fees for it, you will need to make some serious price changes!

3º The fact that you will be below competition (i.e - not beeing able to process cc tru your site in a much easier way) will put people away!

anyway do what you want...its your money afterall

1 - Most of my costumers are from the US, not all of them. But I'm not looking for a solution that pleases ALL of them, I would keep using paypal whenever necessary.

2 - Like I said before. Sometimes I would rather have $100 in my hand than $130 in a fucking virtual account that I cant touch offline. That's my problem and it doesnt mean a price change.

3 - The reason I started this thread was to find out if people consider WU an easier way. Most dont, so I am looking into other options, like I already said above. I have a swiss account waiting for activation and I'll get my paypal money trough that. If there's no glitches in the process, my problem is solved without WU.

WU is very use to use but i don't know why i have the feeling webmasters will never pay with WU. Plus the fees are quite big, especially for the large amounts of money.

Yeah Daz not bad mate... I have moved out of the office too.

The cleaner pissed me off too much. She'd come in at about 4 o clock every afternoon and start rumaging through my bin looking for stamps and reading anything I didn't shred. I think she was retarded.

And my employees were shit... So I sacked em and fucked off on holiday.

Back at home now baby and enjoying the fact I don't need to go into the real world, iron any clothes or smile at any ugly fuckers I don't like.

Being at home rules.
