I need a new computer.

I about trashed my gaming/editing computer to the end of its ropes...

Thinking about this sony Digital Editing Machine

But, seems a bit expensive, tho, it can burn dvds, and record my tv proggies, as well.

Any professional computer builders here, that can give me some suggestions or quotes on a new machine? Looking to spend under $1600 w/o monitor, its a backup.

Used for mainly gaming and editing... I needed it yesterday. =(

best thing is to build your own

I just did the same with an AMD 2200+ XP, asus a7v8x-x motherboard. The whole system costed very few bucks and the performance is the same with any $2k system

tons of old shit from the early days, Ive been using machines for digital audio for so long you wouldnt believe the OLD early sound cards I had laying around here like a fucking museum, I just tossed a dumpster worth of shit hahah

about 10 years of digital audio knick knacks and shit. too much crap.

Eh, its not even worth selling anymore, really.

The shitbox I need to replace is a xp2100+, 128meg geforce4, 1 gig mem, etc. etc. but...

Probably aitn worth shit, or my time to sell, so I'll put it out there, and let it habitat some animals.

Nice new comp ya got tho, it sounds... =) Pretty much the same config as that sony.

It has a built in decoder card, wonder if it works with non-proprietary software tho

Dual amd optron can be built for around the price your looking at. With 1 meg of cache per cpu should do video editing good.

Yes,the best value for the money you spend. Same goes for AMD. Everyone make sure to stay away from celeron. Now they go up to 2600mhz, but their performance is overall crap.

Sony looks nice but they're way too propriatory and you pay for that name. I'd build me my own instead

And I'd go with AMD instead, or wait till the 64 bit comes out

CONSPIRACY!

You CANNOT go to future Celeron clients and tell them they shouldnt buy Celeron!!!!

'''That, Berman continued, violates California trade and anti-trust law. "You can't go to potential licensees and say ?Don't talk to them,?" he said. "There is case law that says (those) kind of activities are prohibited. And now it's going to end up costing them a lot more money." '''

Expensive? Holy crap, those Vaios were a hell of a lot more expensive just a couple years ago and the are 2-3 times faster now.

true Rictor, but still compared to other brands all you pay with sony is their name

90% of the parts of a sony pc are built by other companies. Exception would be their dvd/cdrom, the monitor and the case.

Windows 2000 or XP? There is an option where if a driver or anything else fails, it reboots. You just need to know how to trouble shoot it ;) stop errors and memory dumps...

as well as a nice mother board is the tyan dual amd xp mp chips , you can get two 3000 chips for it , it will take 4 gigs of mem , you can get it for ide and scuz , 32 bit and 64 bit pci as well , the board is fast and damn nice set up and you can get it at a very good price now , and a set up like that you will not need to replace for some time ,
Drew sounds more liek the windows is fucked for you man , but hey if you want new go for it , i would set up a dual sys tho for the fact it can task very well and handle alot of shit at the same time . The tyan board is set up for this kind of work as well .

DRew rememeber this as well , shit like power supplys if that sony fucks , you are fucked trust me the cost not cheap , all the parts for the most haev to go threw them ,
the warrnty as well is much less why they make it that way , if you not go threw a name place the warrntys on the parts are two to three years longers as well
just more things to think about

Checkout pricewatch.com

add up cost of all parts, add $100-200 more for a warranty and that's the price you should pay!

Stay away from the ECS P4VXAD2 mb it is a big piece of shit.

Fry's (outpost.com) runs a promo instore on that and a p4 2.4 cpu for like $160 and it is the worst thing you can buy.

Try to get a p4 2.8!
