Who is getting out of the business this year?

I am just curious how many people are

For sure leaving this week?
Leaving over the next few months?
Depending on how things go will probably leave by years end?

I am just curious I know people are upset with what's going on, but how many are actually just leaving all together.

I think if you can hang in there, next year will be great. It's terrible to say, but this will kick a lot of folks out of the biz & will prevent new ones from starting. The thinning of the herd may end up being a good thing - less competition.

I'm buying and staying, though now putting more focus on mainstream ideas since those have been working out pretty well recently.

We're expanding, building more sites actually. Ain't goin' nowhere. This is nothing compared to some of the shit we have been through, and survived.

There was nothing worse than all of this.

Not all at one time, one thing after another. No way.

We have been through several processor meltdowns.
Had problems with hosting in the past, too.
We are probably in the 6 digits as far as processers owing us money we will never see. So Globill, MC, Visa, etc. is nothing compared to some of the shit that has happened. And I think it will get worse before it gets better.

I will be gone by the end of the year if things go well, if not I will be here until at least next June or July then I am gone forever.

Just a hobby for me, not even close to being my income - just play money. I would like to save up a shit load of money as long as I can to pay off some bills and get a bigger house. Other than that I am a happy camper and make enough from my real job to live very nicely if this industry would go bye bye tomorrow, would just have to wait another year to get that bigger house is all.

SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST
When the dust settles from the cactus and credit card bullshit, a lot of people will be gone from the biz, making it more "interesting" for the one that survived...

As we all know the current economic downturn of our industry is not driven by low demand but by rules changing every other day, suppliers going chapter 11 and so on.

Such downturn has always been a great opportunity for those who are financially healthy enough to exploit these opportunities. I.e. acquiring competing companies for very cheap money.

At the end this process will lead to an industry with much less, but bigger players. My guess is in one or maybe two years from now there won't be such thing as a newbie adult webmaster running a paysite.

Just my

So for myself: I hate all the VISA hassle but at the end of the day I see this this shit as a BIG opportunity. That's why I am just incorporating offshore ... not for creditcard processing but for acquiring other websites ... stay tuned

Thank you!

I have been waiting for this meltdown for years. It is happening now, which is why I am probably so ecstatic! And pissing people off in the process!

Wait till one of the major billers goes down!

My personal goal is to maintain profits with 20% through 2004. At that point, have my biz off the net built up, and go out with dual birds flying;-)

Not that I would turn my back on the biz $$$$$$, by then Greg should be able to handle things and I will let him do it 100%.
