Serious-Coin.com - anyone know what camcorder they're using?

Hey guys, anyone know what camcorder would produce large, bright, crisp and clear screen grabs like the ones found in the free webmaster content at Serious-Coin.com?

Those are like the best screen caps I've ever seen and I'm dying to know what shot them. If you know, please tell!

Also if you get fantastic grabs out of your camcorder, post 'em and tell me what you're using! (Yes, I'm shopping for a new camcorder and the screen grab is going to be really fucking important in the final output.)

Can't say I can equal what they have at Serious-Coin.com, but then again, I'm working at night on the street for these...

VX2000 for the footage, Sony VIAO DVGate for the captures.

the xl1 does an amazing job. but to get the best quality images from a video shoot, it's an idea to take some stills at various intervals.

The Sony TRV950 is actually better for studio work than the VX2000, btw. I use the latter because it does so well in low light situations. But if you have a well-lit setting, the 950 will deliver sharper, crisper images with more detail. It's almost a full 50 lines resolution advantage over the 2000.

Quiet I wish that I could, but when the most important part of the shoot happens without warning and only lasts for 5-10 seconds, it's kinda hard to grab the remote and snap stills.
Especially when both hands are busy.

That night shot looks fantastic for the light level it's at!

Mine will usually be low-light situations... well not so much low lighting as bad lighting (indoor, yellowish).

Juicy, your overpowering sexy guido aura just fills up this thread, baby

(second try, grr@ the gfy burps lately)

Do you guys find that what you're using to import the vids makes a noticeable difference?
I'm using an ATI All In Wonder Pro 128 (yeah a bit old, I know). I pull it in through the ATI's software and then import into Pinnacle Studio 8 to edit and such.

Usually I grab screen captures while it's importing with the ATI software, but the captures in Pinnacle 8 aren't any better (shit in, shit out).

I was hoping a decent camcorder would be enough to solve the majority of my problems with shitty screen caps, but since you mentioned you're using a Sony Vaio DVGate now you've got me wondering if I should be looking at particular hardware for importing as well.

Go with the Sony VX2000 then. Sony, in general has faster glass on it than comparable Cannon models and the 3-chip HAD technology CCD's make for an excellent low light performer.

Pull both video and caps in through firewire for best results, but don't expect anything larger than 640x480 images. If you can afford a Sony Viao Studio, get it! It's an out-of-the-box solution for DV that will never have an interrupt conflict and the supplied programs (DVGate Still, Motion and Assemble) work faultlessly and intuitively.

If you have PhotoShop, you could probably improve the images somewhat with an ImageReady droplet for color correction, but yellow cast is a bitch to deal with on flesh tones.

Agree with the thoughts about the Sony VAIO's - I have two of them and it makes a huge difference since I am not a video expert.

You can save some money by buying an older model. Unless you are working with REALLY long clips the VAIO's that are two years old have plenty of power.

I actually like that particular glare effect, it accents her torso and pulls your eyes right to her boobs

Well, yeah, now that you mention it, it does add to the composition. Thank-you for pointing that out to me.

However, I kinda' think that my eyes would've gotten pulled in that direction anyway.
