Poor bastard, its been one thing after another ever since the trade to Cincinatti. He was the shiznit in Seattle, but Cincy really got hosed with the trade plus the 112 million they gave him.

not sure i've seen a superstar of that caliber have this kind of fall from grace.
this was the Jordan of baseball not that long ago, destined to be the greatest of all time.

Part of his problem was conditioning. He was a naturally gifted athlete who didn't have to work as hard as others. He was known for his lackadaisical approach to conditioning, well now age is catching up to him and he's stil trying to play catchup.
People dismiss baseball as a "kids game" and forgot how gruelling it can be. These guys put a lot of travel time, workouts, playing tough on the field and do this up to 162 games years and the key to any longeivity in the game is conditioning. Babe Ruth wasn't quite the same player when age crept on him either. Griffey is stil young enough and naturally talented enough, he can probably go another 7-10 years (he's only 33) if he keeps conditioning. While the shoulder injury was a result of a bad ,anding on a catch, his leg and hammy injuries are results of poor conditioning. Hell, look at his stats the few times he was healthy...amazing If you take his stats on a homer, RBI per at bat basis, hhs still ranks amongst the all time greats. Remember, a lot of Pete Rose's hit record was as much to do with longevity as it was being a great hitter.
