Good ol' mailmen!

Don't you guys have a no strike clause? We have that here for some occupations. Maybe not the post office though.

They said that on TV, maybee it was to get people riled up, I figure it would make sense for them to just still receive it and create a lag, but if they go on strike, who is going to recieve the mail?

A mailstrike would be bad. We shouldn't have one.

Might have to dip into the investments if that happens.

Yikes!!

Well, ya know, it IS an essential service.....look at how much we depend on our mail to get here on time. We depend on it as much as we depend on nurses being at the hospital when we need them.

I'm sure the big utility companies will not be too please either when people don't get their bills ie: Hydro, Cable, Phone companies....lol.

Canadians are always look for a reason to get out of work. Holidays, strikes, etc.

Remember a few years ago, rail strike in Vancouver, some peeps had hard time making it to downtown. I told them to walk if need be.

its not a hard job and their lives aren't at risk. they don't deserve to make as much money for such an easy job.

I thank god for mine. They have helped me with WCB on which I would have paid thousands to fight. They also got my job back of 15 years on which I was fired twice from.Lawyers fees would have killed me.
Plus the pension ,benefits,security etc.
This strike isn't a done deal yet. This is still in negotiations.

My favorite strike was the Vancouver garbage strike, I lived downtown at the time but was in one of the few buildings that already had private service. I just thought it fun to watch other people with the problems and not myself.

Try being in one first and then judge.Every employer would pay you 10 bucks a hour if they could.
What laws?.I don't know where your from but you have to put up a huge chunk of change for lawyers in order to fight the employer.
It all depends what Union your in. You'r just basing your opinions on the radical government employees.
I'm sticking with the Union label.

Just MO, unions have their place....

And no, postal workers don't put their lives on the line....but it's still an essential service. No, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to deliver the mail....but if the mail isn't delivered.....

Lawyers, doctors, accountants don't put their lives on the line either....

rofl, no they wouldn't. get more skills and they will pay a lot more. i know about unions and they're not needed for professionals. unions are inefficient and don't have a place in today's society. they also increase costs which are passed onto consumers. they're the ones flipping the bill for the greed of workers. be happy to have a job. don't like it, get a better one.

idiots can't be lawyers. accountants, well, hehe. you still need to know a ton of shit to be an accountant.

doctors? when you go in for knee surgery would you like a heart transplant instead? their life isn't on the line, but lives depend on them to do the right things.

you don't need brains to be a postal worker. this goes here and this goes there. thats pretty simple shit that almost anyone with a brain can do. you don't even need to be smart to do it.

Professionals are college educated and have spent thousands of dollars getting to that level
I'm skilled labour that works in the aviation/petroleum industry and make about the same as some of the white collar professionals you keep referring too.
Not everybody has a college education.
Try looking past that glass bubble.

Whatever, thats your opinion.I tend to look at things outside the box and not be so self centered and jaded.
I have a great fucking job ,that I love and get paid quite well.I've always liked working with my hands and using my brains.

I know they are all essencial services basically... but it is still weird when you think about it.....

A nurse -- get's started out at say, $40k per year. She saves lives, and when dealing with certain diseases that make their way into the hospitals, she certainly does risk her life at times.

Ambulance EMT -- get's started off at $40k as well, or close to it. EMT's definitely risk their lives daily, and they save lives.

Cop -- $40k to start, highest risk of all, and they often save lives.

MAILMAN -- Makes about the same as above, walks down a series of streets dropping envelopes into mailboxes. Has to face down the odd dog. Oh my.

If you had to choose one of the above jobs to do from now on, starting tomorrow, I would bet that most people would choose the job of mailman. If they were to contract out their jobs, there are 1000's of people who would walk a mail route for $15 per hour rather than $25+

I disagree....I know many folks who cheated their way through college...lazy fucks who barely passed in spite of all the partying they did during college. A plaque on the wall saying you have a college degree doesn't necessarily mean you have attained a certain level of intellect. ;)

I couldn't for the life of me run big machines like my husband does....I'm more the college type....he's a skilled laborer....he works damn hard for his money.....and knows a whole hell of alot more about running large machinery than I will ever know....he's taken dozens of courses to be able to do what he does.....and he has a union backing him. (although they haven't done a whole hell of alot this last decade or so....his dad who did the same thing made about $5 less per hour back in the 70's.....hmmm)

i will agree there are plenty of idiots at university. you pretty much need something beyond a simple bachelor's degree today. its pretty much like a high school degree 20-30 years ago. but those lazy fucks won't get anywhere if they don't get their shit together.

If they were to contract out their jobs, there are 1000's of people who would walk a mail route for $15 per hour rather than $25+
The service is still essential.

IMHO, I think instead of lowering a postal workers pay, we should be talking about raising pay for cops, nurses etc....lord knows they do deserve it for all the crap they have to deal with....

But know what? Nurses and cops COST money to the gov.....it's all about making money...sad eh?

Ive never known a mailman or letter carrier to make 50K a year.
Where are you guys getting your info from?

Oh and heres a question or two for you.....
on average, how many houses does a letter carrier deliver to each day? and what does he/she do when they have to use the bathroom? i'm curious....

i doubt it will happen, my bet is that they settle at the last minute. A LOT of ppl depend on A LOT of things in the mail. a lot of us can't pay our bills if we don't get the mail. and fuck, i never knew those guys got paid so well. in my town the bastards don't even have to go for a walk, everyones address is a PO box...
