:stoned Bush gives new reason for war - iraq wouldn't allow weapons inspectors in

I think "W" is smoking some serious shit

Salon's Joe Conason is incredulous at Bush's latest defense:

"A 'darn good' quote that almost nobody quoted.

" 'We gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in.'

"George W. Bush uttered that amazing sentence Monday to justify the war in Iraq, according to the Washington Post.

"What? Yes, I promise that's what the man said. (And by 'him,' the president clearly meant Saddam Hussein -- not Kim Jong Il, who actually has refused to let international inspectors into North Korea.)

"Now a presidential statement so frontally at variance with the universally acknowledged facts obviously presents a problem for the White House press corps. He wasn't joking, and he didn't sound disoriented or unwell. Although Dana Priest and Dana Milbank wrote the story as delicately as they possibly could, they couldn't make it seem less weird. . . .

"What possessed the president to make an assertion that everyone on the planet knows to be untrue? And who is going to take the responsibility for this one?"

Make as much money, as quickly as you can before you get out.

That seems to be the industry mentality in general doesn't it ?

Should it be different for W. ?

XY,

Are you defending Saddam Hussein? Isn't his evil enough to justify war? Your reasoning is the same as having let Hitler stay in power. Germany never attacked us.

I think this expectation of permanent world peace keeps all you on an unreasonable plane. War is a necessary tool of politics.

Ah shit... After the 10th idiot statement, lie or just plain bullshit that came out of the "President's" mouth, - I gave up. I bet his ass talks better than his mouth.

This current innuendo or slant is typical of this Admin - *anything* to achieve an end. There is clear lack of ability to make a straightforward honest statement.

Wait for the reasons not used yet, - "It was Tenet's dog..", "It was North Korea that forced us into Iraq.."

I never did hold this "President" (or his Admin) in any high regard almost since he took office. The reasons are just too long for GFY. I now think the man and his entourage are just plain evil, have done NOTHING for the US and are a blot on the landscape on a global basis. They are a total liability for all.

Rest assured, the "fun" is not over yet - I have no doubts the Texas village idiot will be well fucked before any election.

Next election, get an "actual" President in the US - anyone will do!

I know it's in two stories on the Washington Post site, anyone happen to have any collaberating stories from other sources by any chance ?

HEY THERE ALL YOU FUCKING SHEEPLES. kindly Check out Gore Vidal's book "Dreaming War" if you believe the facts in the book this whole picture is deeper and far more insideous/unnerving than this simple quote describes. We're talking military targets and invasions, planned and scheduled for Afganistan and Iraq, well before 9/11. Welcome to the world we created. Bend over for another 4 years because its obvious that we are getting fucked. I don't even feel it anymore, really. Anymore it's just a light pressure on my prostate and a contant urge to pee....oh yeah and GFY!

Let's take your reasoning to it's final conclusion:

ALL leaders like Hussein should go since they are evil.
Kim Ill Jung in North Korea (has nukes, threatening to use them)
Kaddafi in Libya (supports terrorism)
Iran (supports terrorism, supposedly building nukes)
Syria (supports terrorism, hiding a lot of Hussein's family)
Saudi Arabia ( most of 9/11 terroritsts came from there..still a lot of money flowing to terrorists there now)

Endless number of countries in Africa that help terrorists and kill their citizens.

Same for many countries in Central & South America.

If they're evil, let's take them ALL OUT!!
I mean, aren't we the WORLD's POLICEMEN??

People who say "Hussein was evil, good enuf reason to invade" are so fucking short sited it's amazing they find their way home!

But wait! It gets funnier. We're all paying for it:

US heads for $1.9 trillion deficit as Iraq war costs $48bn

David Teather in New York
Wednesday July 16, 2003
The Guardian

The Bush administration yesterday admitted the federal budget deficit this year would be 50% higher than previous forecasts as it emerged that the Iraq war had so far cost the Pentagon $48bn (£30bn).
The White House said the US would end the year with a record $455bn budget shortfall, up from previous estimates of $304bn. Over six years, the deficit is now forecast to reach $1.9 trillion, up from an earlier estimate of $1.4 trillion.

The admission came a day after President George Bush, whose malapropism has spawned dozens of websites and books, uttered one of his most extraordinary gaffes yet when he told reporters that the US had invaded Iraq because Saddam Hussein had refused to allow weapons inspectors in.

Pressed during an Oval Office press conference on the now infamous assertion that Iraq had sought to buy uranium ore in Africa, he said: "The larger point is, and the fundamental question is, did Saddam Hussein have a weapons programme? And the answer is, absolutely. And we gave him a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in.

"And, therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power, along with other nations, so as to make sure he was not a threat to the United States and our friends and allies in the region."

The comment, made on Monday, received little coverage in the US media. Although it did raise some eyebrows at the Washington Post, which, in understated style noted: "The president's assertion that the war began because Iraq did not admit inspectors appeared to contradict the events leading up to the war this spring."

Saddam had in fact allowed weapons inspectors back in to Iraq on November 27 last year for the first time in four years and they remained there, albeit in a largely fruitless search, until the US and Britain decided to invade.

The White House did not re turn calls seeking comment.

The administration blamed the growing red ink on the weakness in the economy and the costs of fighting terrorism. The influential federal reserve chairman, Alan Greenspan, also raised concerns about the size of the deficit and called on the administration to exercise some "fiscal responsibility".

In response the White House said: "The tax cuts proposed by the president are not the problem. They are part of the solution." It believes the stimulus package will help cut the deficit to $226bn by 2008.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Dov Zakheim, the US defence department comptroller, said the military's role in Iraq now was costing an average of about $3.9bn a month. The Pentagon was given an additional $62.6bn this year, on top of its $364bn budget, to fight the war.

Mr Zakheim said he expected that all but $4bn of the additional cash would be spent before the end of September, the Pentagon's fiscal year.

It has nothing to do with the fact that Saddam is a menace. It had everything to do with the fact that somebody LIED about information!
Thousands of people died in this conflcit over bad information.
That is Mmerican soldiers, children, women, civilians.
People are losing their lives there daily.

The most important thing os it's the same as Clinton. It wasnt that he had sex in the whitehouse with a member of his staff. It was that he LIED about it!

The truth is the inspectors were there and this administration said time and time again it made no difference what they found we were still going in. Now he istrying to make it sound like Saddam did not let inspectors in when they were clearly there looking and begging for more time!!!!

Somone told a LIE people!

None .. I have no grouse with any Presidents.. they gotta do what they gotta do - that is with the exception of the current village idiot.

My best and only real suggestion is to vote when you get your chance to change your part of the world.

I think alot of you are foolish enough to expect and demand a perfect world, especially one without a Republican president.

My major concern was the first Bush didn't remove Saddam from power in the first Gulf War. Our leaders do have a responsibilty of destroying regimes that are a threat to our security and economy.

I'm glad you agree the Bush regime needs to be done away with.

Well, I had my heart set on Secretary of State but I'll consider Attorney General. I'm checking on law school admissions now. I might have to do the cram course though

Really? You are ok with Lebanon, Libya, Grenada, Tanker War, Panama, Gulf War, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, and Kosovo?

No, no more higher learning for me. And can you tell me why when you try to post our Attorney General's name on here, it appears like what you have there??

If we let GW get away with lies then we might as well just elect Sadaam
