Depends on what you mean by decent. If you want peace and quiet and not having to argue with everyone each time you drive to work or cross a street or go out grocery shopping, then you can forget it. $1000/mo will give you decent MATERIAL standards, but there's more to life quality than that.

I can tell you that during the last few years I had tought/investigated a lot about leaving Western Europe and to continue my life in a warmer & cheaper climate.

But guess what I found out: In every of those cheap countries there is at least one good reason why they are so cheap (crime, no culture, poverty, ... you name it).

polish_aristocrat: a VERY good monthly income in Romania is 450$. With 600$/month you can get a loan from the bank to buy a small apartment in Bucharest. I make more than 1000$/month, otherwise I will not consider relocating.

Let me show you how the fiscal system work here for a LLC company who wants to give to one employee 500$ in hand in every month. The company has to pay over 1000$ for that monthly. All above the 500$ the employee gets are taxes to the fucking romanian state. So a company is paying at least 500$ taxes a month for a single man. At the end of the year, the employee himself has to pay another tax for his yearly income. So it is a double tax... A fucking shame.

Not to mention the chaos in the medical system, juridic system, EVERY FUCKING SYSTEM is upside down. The corruption is EVERYWHERE.

Romania wants to be a part of EU by 2007? My ass, it is a 80 years gap between EU and Romania. BELIVE ME.

Seems like is not just me with the same feeling of going and leave this piece of shit country...

I have a friend who was making nice thousands a month renting rooms in downtown Bucharest for foreigners. He has a very nice life, with 3 apartments in the center of the city he got from his grandfather. Where is he now? He's in Canada... Why? He's sick of all the small problems here that make a BIG problem overall. He is still renting rooms here, but he lives there, a more decent, civilised life.

hi prostock, i don't live in USA. I understand what you mean. My post was a double ironic one. I don't believe in greatest countries, best standards living blah blah. Every country has pros and cons. Hell, the differences between some states are so big that it's like living in another country. Am i wrong? What i have noticed is that americans try to pass you the idea they live in a better country than yours and the best thing you can do in your life, is to find a way to move where they live :-)

I don't fucking care about poverty, poverty is everywhere, indeed there are way more poor people here than other countires but honestly this is not my problem.
