i could lie and assume they are great but i honestly dont know... i've only stayed at the Hyatt once and been to La Valencia and the surrounding area for dinner many times...

it's good that you are asking around though, but when i dont have time to ask around, 'When in doubt, always bank on the Hyatt', so I usually end up there, always exemplary service, they cater to every whim, and i'm a picky motherfucker....

You can't go wrong with the Four Seasons, though its a bit farther out in the Carslbad area...the La Costa Resort, also in the Calrsbad area is great as well....

I flipped thru Expedia to see what they had, got a couple things on the agenda since we're driving out on Friday and hanging til Sunday afternoon -- anything between Coronado and Rancho Santa Fe is fair game if its a cool place

The Rancho Valencia Resort is very close and looks very nice. Rooms run from 470 a night to 980.

I also recommend Shelter Island try humphreys
or go to the Bahia Mission Bay

also I like the Catamaran in Mission Beach - upscale for that area.
La Valencia is pricey

try Hyatt at Aventine, the Marriott is at UTC as well.

Looking for more resortish type of accommodations or what?

The catamaran is right on the bay and across the street from the beach... lots of stuff to do during the day. Then, its a few blocks from the busiest night life in san diego (besides downtown). An amazing amount of clubs and bars to have fun with

MSB I actually stayed at that Sheraton, its on the backside of the island. It is nice. Not as nice as Del Mar, but pretty solid, especially for a Sheraton.
