Good hotel in San Diego?

That's not downtown?

Loews Coronado is booked up and Hotel del Coronado is entirely non-smoking according to the website, what else can someone suggest?

Affectionately known as the Pink Lady of La Jolla, La Valencia Hotel and its distinctive tiled tower crown the local skyline as they have since 1926. This legendary hideaway's guest book reveals an impressive roster of celebrities ? from Groucho Marx and Lillian Gish to Madonna and Martha Stewart.

Set above picturesque La Jolla Cove, the hotel overlooks the Pacific Ocean and Ellen Browning Scripps Park ? popular for picnics, strolling, jogging, and sweeping sunset views. Art galleries, upscale boutiques, and the cafes of La Jolla Village wait within walking distance.

Inside, the Mediterranean-inspired decor and architecture surround visitors with antique furnishings, Spanish mosaics, and hand-painted murals and ceilings. The 117 European-style rooms and suites display ocean, garden, or village views. A $10-million renovation, completed in 2001, added 15 spectacular Ocean Villas.

Ranging in size from 400 to 1,200 square feet, the villas come with private butler service. The hotel's three restaurants ? The Sky Room, The Mediterranean Room and Tropical Patio, and The Whaling Bar and Grill ? each form a venerable tradition in their own right. Still a reigning queen of seaside resorts, the Pink Lady of La Jolla unites the best of California's past and present.

It is expensive but worth every penny.

la valencia is 5 star, great food, in the heart of SD's 'beverly hills' of La Jolla... world class art galleries, yuppie bars, and world class shopping....

KRL 07-06-2003 12:47 PM

Forgot to mention, and the views are breathtaking.

kmanrox 07-06-2003 12:48 PM

the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla is also VERY nice... has one of the est spas / fitness clubs in SD as well....

I like that KRL -- hey kman, how's the 4 Seasons or the Lodge at Torrey Pines?

KRL 07-06-2003 12:54 PM

The Lodge is nice too. If I remember the rooms go for about $375 to $600 a night.

i could lie and assume they are great but i honestly dont know... i've only stayed at the Hyatt once and been to La Valencia and the surrounding area for dinner many times...

it's good that you are asking around though, but when i dont have time to ask around, 'When in doubt, always bank on the Hyatt', so I usually end up there, always exemplary service, they cater to every whim, and i'm a picky motherfucker....

Kimmy, there are a couple of 5 start resorts close to the Mansion that include golf, spa, etc... I"m not sure if you had other plan while there or not. If it is just for the party you should look for one of the resorts by clicking here: http://www.expedia.com/pub/agent.dll...=&itdx=&part=0

cool1g 07-06-2003 12:59 PM

You can't go wrong with the Four Seasons, though its a bit farther out in the Carslbad area...the La Costa Resort, also in the Calrsbad area is great as well....

I flipped thru Expedia to see what they had, got a couple things on the agenda since we're driving out on Friday and hanging til Sunday afternoon -- anything between Coronado and Rancho Santa Fe is fair game if its a cool place :)

The Rancho Valencia Resort is very close and looks very nice. Rooms run from 470 a night to 980.

FreeFastHost 07-06-2003 01:14 PM

I've stayed at the Marriott in San Diego... I found a URL http://www.marriott.com/epp/default....rshaCode=SANDT

It was actually very nice. Only two miles from the airport too.

Katlicious72 07-06-2003 02:22 PM

Marriot is also a nice choice. Kimmykim email me at [email protected] if you need more choices or whatever.

I stayed at that W a couple months ago, honestly all that bright white furniture gives me a headache when I'm trying to sleep...

lil2rich4u2 07-06-2003 02:36 PM

I stayed on harbor island in the sheridan.

Was very nice, only few miles off of lahoya which has a kick ass beech.

crescentx 07-06-2003 02:40 PM

Not real close to SD but one of the nicest hotels I've stayed at in a really cool town, Del Mar...just above Black's Beach. L'Auberge Del Mar, AWESOME room service, beautiful hotel, super comfortable:

MassAppeal 07-06-2003 02:43 PM

not quite as nice as some as the above, but The Catamaran is a decent hotel for a decent price in a decent location...
at least i think it is

Sly_RJ 07-06-2003 02:43 PM

I'm too cheap for all that $250+ a night crap. I use hotels to sleep, shower, and maybe grab some grub. As long as the rooms are well kept and look decent, I'm cool. I think $150 is my limit...

TheGoldenChild 07-06-2003 02:44 PM

AVIARA FOUR SEASON'S IS BY ME :-))

I also recommend Shelter Island try humphreys
or go to the Bahia Mission Bay

also I like the Catamaran in Mission Beach - upscale for that area.
La Valencia is pricey

try Hyatt at Aventine, the Marriott is at UTC as well.

Looking for more resortish type of accommodations or what?

Kimmykim 07-06-2003 03:58 PM

I stayed at Humphreys when I saw you out there last and I do like it for a concert by the bay --

Two of my girlfriends are driving up with me for the weekend so I want to stay somewhere cool --

The catamaran is right on the bay and across the street from the beach... lots of stuff to do during the day. Then, its a few blocks from the busiest night life in san diego (besides downtown). An amazing amount of clubs and bars to have fun with :)

KK you should give up smoking and hit Hotel del Coronado. I know how you are with fine hotels, and this is the creme!!

You should at least grab lunch there one day!

try this hotel....

Mike AI 07-06-2003 06:16 PM

MSB I actually stayed at that Sheraton, its on the backside of the island. It is nice. Not as nice as Del Mar, but pretty solid, especially for a Sheraton.

Personally, I've always thought that the only difference between a smoking room and a non-smoking room was the ashtray.

As long as there's a soap dish it's not really any different now is it ;)

Then you must stay at the W

Ask Ken how he liked it last weekend-
the club BEACH in the hotel has heated sand at the bar and the people are all beautiful-

Can't go wrong.

Then there is always J Styles guest house :-))

Hey KB did you miss the part where I said the W gave me a headache? The furniture is way too bright in there for me, even though I do like that rooftop bar ;)

foolio 07-07-2003 12:15 AM
