Ok I have been looking online and I cant figure out how to make my dog stop bleeding!! He was running around and ripped a toe nail off! And it wont stop bleeding!! Anyone have any REAL Ideas!!?

Perhaps a liquid bandage would work, unless of course he is licking the wound.

from some vet site:

A broken toenail on a pet (most commonly a dog) may or may not be an emergency. However, it will almost always require a trip to the veterinarian's office within 24 hours. When a dog's toenail breaks near its base, it may bleed profusely. The bleeding can in some cases be controlled by applying gentle but steady pressure with a cotton ball or clean cloth.

If the bleeding is profuse or does not stop, or if the toenail remains partially attached, the pet should be taken to a veterinarian immediately. However, if the bleeding can be controlled, and the pet does not seem to be in much pain, the area should be kept clean and the pet should be seen by a veterinarian within 12 to 24 hours. Antibiotics may be required to help prevent infection of the nail bed.

Sometimes when giving a pet a pedicure, a pet owner will accidentally trim a toenail too short, resulting in bleeding. Again, gentle but steady pressure should be applied to the area. Applying a small amount of cornstarch to the end of the nail can be an effective home remedy to help stop the bleeding.

Pretty good idea!

If you can't get him to stop biting off the bandages, couldn't you put one of those lampshades on his head like put on animals after surgery. Then you could wrap it and not have to worry about him eating the bandage off.

Clean the wound with water and soup. Than wrap it in grauze. Take your dog to the vet in the morning.

our gog had a bleeding foot once. It looks worse than it might be because there is bllod everywhere since they run around all over and leave blood all over the place. If you can get your gog to sit still like in his bedding or wherever and wrap the wound, I bet keeping him totally still for like half an hour with gauze around it should do.

But, it's getting him to sit still as you refresh this thread that's the trick.

"You can dip your dog's paw into a shallow dish of flour and pack the flour into the wound to stop bleeding.Once bleeding has stopped, wash your dog's paw with soap and water and apply a small amount of antibacterial ointment and gauze, if necessary."

My cat did that once...ripped the whole thing out. So here I am with a bleeding cat in my friend's car, no carrier, trying to hold on to the little fucker, and he gets away and is running around the inside of the car bleeding and howling while my friend is trying to drive and scream at me over the sound of the cat's yowls not to let him get any blood on her car seats. Horrible...

Oh, and while I'm typing this, my cat Quinn is sitting on a footstool under the desk and poking her paw up through the back of the keyboard tray and trying to catch my fingers...
