We are wanting to setup a wireless access point with at least a 1 mile range.

Any recomendations on what equipment to purchase?

1 mile range is far, im not sure exactly how much you were planning to spend, but for a standard home wireless network.. you could get like a 5ghz access point/router for a couple hundred, which will go up to about 3-400 feet (depending on possitioning)
