First off, the name of this board is gofuckyourself.

She showed respect by actually arguing and not calling you a moron.

You can't take a little comment personally, or else you'd be crying everytime someone argues with you on this board.

Stop crying. I am stating facts which interestingly enough can be found on certain channels if you weed through the bullshit of most tv.

Water travels the path of least resistance.

So does everything else.

there are many possibilities, I'm not saying they are going to happen but they are possible given the current climate. I just enjoy being able to have an intelligent debate about things on here once in a while since it's so rare here.

I'm sorry but your opinions aren't facts. I respect your opinions and enjoy the debate but don't think that your opinions are facts any more than mine are the same.

Nonconsensual sex is rape, rape fantasy is probably legal, KimmyKim is arrogant, and the Right Wing is scary. Get over it.

Exactly.

I don't think Hypno Trick is obscene, but I do think you profit by selling rape fantasies, which is rather sketchy. But I do applaud your ability to develop a somewhat original reality concept.

What about hollywood movies who profit from simulated murders, rapes, etc? Because it's produced by a big studio and there isn't graphic sex involved, is it ok?

I think Hollywood movies have way more artistic merit than Hypno Trick though.

Hollywood movies don't sell a fantasy as much as they sell a story.

I agree, Dugmor does good work. This particular subject is a bit on the edge of common decency though. But then again, so is being involved with Manny The Freak. :1orglaugh

Usually these things can get by without the usual "drama" based on the notion that the rape scenes or violence is based around a non-sexual storyline that calls for it in order to complete the artistic vision.

With that being said, I guess it's ok with most of the fatcats. But there are some who protest some disturbing films Hollywood creates too. But not with the same zealous overture.

True, but who do you think would win if people had to choose which had more artistic merit: Basic Instinct or Hypno Trick?

Some movies have no story; it's all about the murders and creatures eating humans alive.

I wonder if a murder in a hollywood movie that contains an explicit sex scene would be a big deal? Nah, it wouldn't.

Has anyone seen 8MM? There's a Porno-Murder tape in it. I never heard anyone bitch about this movie.

Well now, that would depend on the community. There are some interesting legal concepts regarding the internet as its own community, one that is not dependant upon physical boudaries.

True, and the fact that porn is a billion dollar industry has some merit into the argument that a good percentage of americans seem to be ok with it.

I saw 8mm. Good flick. I think the reason why you wouldn't see many protests about it boils down the the storyline, the characters, and the "moral" tale trying to be told there.

The film seemed to try and define the people involved with making the snuff film, and showed the trauma it caused Nick Cage, etc. Right there you have the argument of artistic merit.

Do porn films go so far as to seriously portray character development in their plots? Rarely to any convincing degree.

Producers of Hollywood movies have to cut stuff out all the time in order to avoid the dreaded 'R' rating.

Digipimp 06-26-2003 02:06 AM

Exactly 20 minutes of porn depicting a rape scene isn't exactly a motion picture with character development, plots and everything else that's added in. If movies like 8mm were just cut down the graphic scenes without the plot and development you would probably see the same amounts of complaints about it as porn of the same type.

I don't know about that. What's so dreaded about an "R" rating these days? I agree they cut out scenes to avoid the money-pit known as NC-17 though. :winkwink:

I agree, there is more artistic merits to this movie than most porn flicks. However, a little art shouldn't make sure a difference between hollywood and the porn industry.

For example, if a porn movie portrays a very violent rape, but there are hours of character development, people will still bitch about the porn movie.

Well, a 'R' rating limits the number of people that can go see the movie and therefor limits the amount of $$$ they can take in from the box office. So if they have a movie that is on the border of the ratings, they have a big incentive to cut out some bad stuff to squeak in under that 'R' rating.

Johny Traffic 06-26-2003 02:11 AM

If you want to see a movie that would suprise you that there were hardly any protests about it, just watch the movie "Irreversible". I believe it's an Italian flick.

I have it, and at first it was very difficult to follow due to the fact it was chronicled backwards... meaning, the last events happen first, etc. However, the point is, it was a beautifully well made film. It won many critical acclaim at Cannes. But it shows some of the most horrific scenes of brutality I've seen in a mainstream film in a long time. There was a rape scene that lasts for 10 min, and the camera did not cut once... one continuous scene. Another scene shows a guy getting his face beat to a pulp until he was dead and even beyond death. Yet because the underlying plot and tale to be told was so powerful, it forced you to look at those scenes as they should be looked at... with disgust.

Therefor, it's clearly of far more moral value than say... Bumfights.

Hours of character development would most likely negate the movie from being classified as porn to begin with.

Those kinds of movies are known as "Arthouse" movies.

True, but when was the last porn movie you saw that had a violent rape scene with hours of character development prior to the scene? Thats a bit of a rare find. 5 minutes of character devolpment would be more a realistic find. And thats probably because people that are buying the rape videos are buying it for the rape, not the lame stories about the characters.

So do you get my point or not? I'm talking about the controversy surrending a porn flick, compared to a hollywood flick.
