Im lost

I have no idea where to start, if you can give me a couple tips or even a site that has the info (that actually make sense to non technical type) hook me up!

www.imagemagick.org , its usually pretty simple for linux / freebsd distros.

Who are you hosting with? Your host should be able to help you out a bit, and maybe even install it for you.

My host installs all that script shit for me. They're either going out of their way to make a customer happy, or they're afraid I'll delete the hard drive.

If you are on FreeBSD, easiest way to do it would be using ports.

goto /usr/ports/graphics/ImageMagick (notice to caps) then type makeinstall

that would download&install fully working copy of it.

if the version is old you might want to update your ports collection with cvs-up

If it's your own dedicated you really shouldn't be trying to admin it if you can't even install a fairly simple module. As has been suggested ask your host and if you haven't got one get a managed solution.

login as root

go to imagemagick.org, pick the mirror closest to your server, login to it's ftp thru your box and download ImageMagick5.5.7-9.i386.tar.gz (or like this) to a folder on your box

go out of ncftp (better to use it for browsing ftp sites) type 'tar -xzf ImageMagick5.5.7-9.i386.tar.gz' or whatever filename it would be

tar will create a folder named ImageMagick5.5.7-9 or like this. cd into in and type './configure' then 'make' and finally 'make install'

that's all. easy, isn't it?
