Planning to get a new Honda FireBlade so need an advice how is it hard to start with it? It will be the first one i'll own and i am a little bit confused of it's high power. I considered 600cc bike but it's a way to slow for me (it accelerates to 60mph for almost 5sec). So any suggestions??

I think you might be thinking of a Moped. 600's acelerate faster than 60 in 5 seconds.

I just traded my 6 for an R-1. I like it much better but I must say they are both just as fast if you ride the 6 in high rpm. The 1 is just much more fun on the bottom..

Motocross still rules though. Go big or go home;)

I mentioned the R-6 because he said he was a newbie on bikes. I wouldnt put anyone not experience on an R-1.

a 600 is not too slow. i would get like a zx6 or a katana. drive that for like 5000 kms and then get a bigger 600 or 750.

and my old 98 gsxr 600 accelerated faster than a viper, they're hardly slow.

I had a YZ 80 as a kid, never raced, except for the locals. I also had a Yamaha Maxim 550 as well, then I got into 3 wheelers and quads, Just got rid of my Banshee not long ago, but been riding street bikes all the while, and sport bikes for about 10 years now.

I refuse to buy a car, especially living in the last places I have lived, Vegas, Miami, NY, Now LA. The traffic drives me nuts in a car, but on a bike, you just cut lanes and go.

If its your first bike start off small. When I started riding bikes at 16 I picked up a Suzuki GS 400. Then I wen't to a 600 Ninja and now I have a Kawasaki ZX-7. I was getting tired of the power so I added larger pistons.. Muzzy cams... Kehin 35mm flat slide carbs.. Muzzy exhaust and Peformance Machine wheels. You can also play around with gearing to get more bottom and midrange out of it. Try one tooth smaller in the front or a few larger in the back to increase snap. Now the bike is alot of fun to ride. Next step for it is NOS just for fun.

Good luck and keep it rubber side down.

Oh as a side not... don't get cheap on protective gear. Buy the best helmet you can and a good leather jacket and gloves. They sure saved me when this guy ran a stop sign on me and I hit his passanger door doin 60km on my 600 ninja. 4 broken ribs, punctured lung, cracked skull, bruised hip, broken arm... Im still riding...

I just compared R6 and FireBlade and it seems that Yamaha is 25% less powerful than Honada (117 and 160 hp) but for all that they both weight equal. So 25% is not a significant difference. I didn't mentioned R1 since as i heard it is VERY hard to ride for a newbie and as for FB i have opinions that it forgives a lot of driver errors. Also 600ccs acceleration is not enough for me after 300hp Mitsu

Maybe you guys can suggest some good 750cc??

you have to learn how to drive first. unless you want to end up in a tree.

I heard that the only model that is worth of attention is GSX-R 1000 which is more powerful than FireBlade

And if compare 600ccs Yamaha looks better, but Suzuki has DOHC engine... Shit.. i totally confused. I better need to go to the shop and compare it there.

suzuki has a sweet 600. i'd say its best on the market.

There was a 600 class shootout in Sport Rider Mag recently, and hands down, all 4 riders liked the R6 the most.

Now, if you want to increase overall hp right from the get go, ride the new, unmod bike for about 10 miles, thump it , do whatever, then go buy a pipe, Akrapovic is pricey, but the best pipe made in my opinion for a Yamaha, then get a K&N filter, about 130 bucks, you have an instant 16 hp, average.
Then if you want a little more, with minor mods, get a Jet Kit. Then if you want to spend a little more to get dynamic results, tear it down, take the heads off and have them port and polished.
Now, still not enough, spend the $ and get a racing cam, racing lifters, racing pistons. If you have all this done, and still isnt fast or powerful enough for you, let me know, Ill hook you up with my engine builder.

Anyone can go fast in a straight away. Corners is where a race is won. It's all about the handling..

Truth being told for a newbie, get whatever you can get a good deal on and you like... you're gonna throw it down... step it up on your 2nd bike and save yourself some money on this one;) No matter what, you are never going to take the bike to it's limit anytime soon, so performance should not be a huge variable for you now.
