Yeah, I'll step up and defend SilverCash. I've used them for a good 6-8 months and they convert pretty damn well for me. They're my 2nd best sponsor and they pay out on checks and credit cards which not all other sponsors out there do. To me, they're a great sponsor and Mike/Adrian/Jason run the company really well.

Whether they shave or not, who really cares. What matters at the end of the day is the amount on that check divided by the number of hits I sent.

How so? My philosophy in this whole business is to achieve the maximum revenue per click sent. If a particular sponsor is shaving but I'm still making the most with them at the end of the day, so be it. Sure, shaving does come down to fraud, but there's no sense in making accusations unless you got some solid proof.

Rather than going around trying to figure out if a sponsor is shaving, I simply would change sponsor links if my revenue per click dropped below another sponsor.

WiredGuy speaks true.

Now send us some more damn traffic Charles!

If you don't know what you are making per click on YOUR outbound count then you have no idea what you are really making. Doesn't get much simpler than that.

The day that conversion ratios dont matter and checks do to the majority of this business is the day this business dies.

Whoever is the most profitable per click at the end of the day is what matters to me. If the other sponsor is shaving as well but they're more profitable, then switch.

We were discussing this a while back on Ynot because of an article written for theadultwebmaster.com

It seems like it's almost a given that sponsors shave. I assume some sponsors do and some don't.

No one should ever assume a sponsor is shaving and at the same time no one should ever feel that shaving is just an acceptable part of the industry.

Given that reasoning the only conclusion I could come to is there needs to be a sort of self monitoring system set up, such as an independent auditor who periodically goes over everything and gives a stamp of approval to a sponsorship program.

Specifically, a sponsor would have to open up their books, traffic logs and any other pertinent information that would help an auditor in their job.

I don't know if something like this is already out there. I've done a few searches in the past few weeks, but come across nothing thus far.

If not, there will be. It is an opportunity for someone with the smarts and the reputation to pull it off.

i agree with what XYCash has stated,

some type of auditiing service would definately be great for webmasters, though how has the influence, money and balls to get something happen.. then the next thing is to convince affiliate program owers to open up.

don't think i'll happen any time soon

Just go find 100-200 people, and pay them $5/ea to use their credit card to sign up for a sponsor's site. You will be able to tell how much they're shaving from that, obviously.

Have each person sign a sworn affidavit that they haven't ever signed up before, and get them all notorized.

Sue the sponsor for all the money, proportionally, that you have lost since you have been sending trafifc.

It would be easy to win that lawsuit.

hey pete, dont sound like a newb... i will tell you all you newbs who dont know, no matter what ANYONE tells you.... 100 per fucking PERCENT of PPS sponsors SHAVE.... the industry standard is 30% ..... Quit fucking whining if you dont like it... Life's a bitch... The key is to find one that converts the best and one who looks like they are shaving the standard 30%, or finding one who uses 3rd party 50/50 and hope the third party isnt shaving you and the siteowner.... I dare you to find a mediocre, non unique website that is using a non-shavable (by the siteowner/aff. program operator) that is PPS.... To an average website owner a join is worth $20 or less... add in spamming past members, upsells (exits, crosssales, feeds, etc etc) and then it is worth more, throw in 30% shave and hell yeah its worth a 35$ payout...

i dunno if any of that made sense, but thats my input, deal with it...

Maybe, if it's an automated system. I have no idea how shaving works, but I assume a sponsor who was doing it could "switch" it on and off depending on how sales are looking for any particular time period.

So if you sent those people to sign up during a period when they weren't shaving, the results wouldn't show shaving and you're out 500 to 1000 dollars.

Yeah, you might could get by paying $25/join w/o shave if you have aggressive marketing to the member afterwards.. good post.

That is just crazy. If that is true, and I really have no idea if it is, then there is widespread fraud in the industry.

It's not just cheating, it's fraud and open to a huge lawsuit that would rock this industry to it's knees.

For that reason I hope you are completely mistaken.

Can you imagine the headlines if all of the PPS sponsors got caught up in a class action lawsuit?

If what you say is true then it's coming.

If you're THAT worried about shaving, there's a simple solution.
Promote 60/40 programs and host the tour yourself.

You can do your own tour or just host the sponsors tour on your own server, link up your join page directly to the processor bypassing the sponsors stats software altogether.

When I started doing this my sales increased substantially, not because anyone was necessarily shaving, but simply because no form of cookie or php tracking is going to be as accurate as a hardcoded join page.

If you insist on getting $40 today for your 2.99 signup, then roll the dice, take your chances and quit your whining. If one sponsor doesn't work out, find another one, there's more than enough to choose from.

Bullshit. It's the principle of it. I would never knowingly send traffic to a sponsor that is outright stealing from me. And if I find out one of them is I will sue.

If a sponsor is paying $30.00 or more persignup; the way they make their money is by recurring members..and it takes a while to do that....

Get used to it.
How will you sue? Can you PROVE how much you lost by them shaving you? Unless you have some inside knowledge and DOCUMENTATION of the shave, you are fucked.

Do you honestly think most paysite owners can afford to pay $40 per signup? How do they do it then? I can tell you they either fudge signup numbers... or take the "extra" on the side by not paying on check signups or dialer signups or cross sales or exit consoles to sites in their program.

It's getting more and more difficult to make any $$ in this industry with a PPS program. Retention is tough to keep, even with exclusive content. Start your own paysite.. find out for yourself. That is the only sure fire way to know you aren't being shaved.

I'm not saying that all companies shave... I am saying it's becoming a more and more accepted practice for those starting their own PPS programs.

First, it's unfair to say that "all programs shave". This is just not true. I just launched our PPS; I've spent the past six months tracking our members and getting every dime I can out of them so I can make a profit off of PPS.

And by the way, there are ways to find out who shaves. One of our webmasters came to me last month with some of the most interesting stats. While it's true that some (dare I say most) companies shave, seeing the stats on paper blew my mind away.

While I'm at it....... Again, you shouldn't air such things on a public board. This industry is to the point where a single person on a single board can slander an entire company. It's only a matter of time before some of these companies start making phone calls and start filing lawsuits.

Don't even come to the boards and accuse a company of something without any proof.

We revshare and for reliable webmasters sending constant joins I happily host the hardcoded front ends for them = have before and will again - and I'm not talking mucho signs - a per day every day is worth my while....

It never ceases to amaze me how people in this biz seem so focussed on "who can dick who most often and the hardest"....

I would prefer to share a cold brew with a few webmasters that make money (and help me make money!!!) OFTEN than try and scam a lot.......

Might be just me, but that seems like good business....

Fly, it's best you get your facts strait before posting shit like this. The fact is that I experence good conversions with SC, some sites convert better than similiar AdultPlatinum sites, and both programs have some even higher converting unique sites that do not compete with each other. The reason I compare the two programs is that AdultPlatinum has no shave module and I invite any proficient ColdFusion developer to come to our office and look at the code if you want proof. This is my proof that SC doesn't shave as well.

Anyway, this thread is slanderous, Fly should think twice before making an allegation like this.
