But you'll find that due to permissions, security settings, etc, it doesn't always work. For example, it doesn't work on the server I'd really like to use it on. Not even for transferring files within directories ON the server!

If you got shell access to both nothing beats ttcp with tar for transferring between servers. Preserves ownership, permission, and zooms along quickly in the background.

Mutt :

It is not a local setting ... your host has FXP protocol blocked

Ask them to enable it

I have been using Flash FXP for about 6 months now ... I'll never use anything but ....

Great stop/resume features too !! (which is the main reason I bought it ... it came highly recommended)

Flash FXP is

Stick to Unix servers and pick up a book on FreeBSD, Solaris or Linux and learn the simple FTP command for your system, ssh in and move files between servers. Much more reliable and less likely to fuck up databases. You'll be happy with yourself that you learned it.

actually, I have a process running as I type this... i was searching for the same thing on Google... ssh into your source server and type the following command at the shell prompt.

resync -auvz -e ssh -C /path/to/local/directory/ [email protected]:/path/to/remote/directory/

replace the paths correctly, user with your username, and remotehost.com with your remote FTP host info. it will ask you for your password and maybe a security key download after hitting enter.

I'm moving 60GB of information atm without having to worry about making space on my local computer's hd or being limited to my connection speed.

i like the sound of Hungryman's advice - cuz it's the easiest!

but there are several servers involved here, some virtual, so i really doubt they will FXP enable a virtual server if there are security issues.

GFED - i'll try your method. what is a 'security key'? where do i find out that info?

thanks

don't worry bout the key... it'll just ask you if you want to download it, and you say yes... it's an added security measure of using the ssh protocol... please icq me if you need any help... I'm available atm...
