Just reading the article now...

Do they explain how they calculate 'price of living'?

It takes in a lot of things, but I think its mostly based on cost of real estate, food, and transportation

14 (11) Hanoi, Vietnam
16 (14) Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Ok you know something is wrong with the list when you see Vietnam listed anywhere in the top 100 ... you can live in these places for a couple of dollars a day..

Perhaps it is based on the local incomes ?

Ie, it costs more for someone in Russia to live in Moscow, because the average wage is $1000/year.

Yup.

I was wondering if local salaries came into the equation too?

Wealthy people get gouged everywhere. Its just the nature and dynamics of the marketplace.

Are you saying wealthy people pay more for things (comparatevily speaking) than low to middle income people?

That's gotta be it. Either that, or they take into account how much you need to pay for protection.

compared to U.S. Moscow is much expensive place to live. They had night clubs where the cover charge was like $100. I am just surprised that NYC is way behind Moscow.

Aww raspberries!!!

The cost of a city is based on the cost of a hooker.

I guess hookers in Tokyo cost more than hookers in NY?

That would explain Beijing.
