i currently have an amd, and havent had any problems with it. just the new p4's with 800mhz front side bus is really tempting. i checked some prices and this is what i have so far. its all in CAD too.
Samsung 512MB PC-3200 DDR400 SDRAM $115 x 2 Pentium 4 2.4C GHz w/ Hyper-Threading Technology Retail $279 ASUS P4C800-DLX Intel 875P, 800MHz Dual DDR400 $272 ASUS V9280TD GeForce4 4200-8X 128MB DDR $188 is that a good deal? |

amd's are just as fast, if not faster for 99% of the applications out there.
i'm running an abit at7-max2, a little pricey but an exceptional board, 2400+ athlon, 1gb kingston 2700 hyperx (sweet ram.. cheap as hell), toss in the wd 8mb cache drives and you have a sweet setup. proc (oem) $100 mem $75 x2 board $165
