Look for the flying fish on your way across the channel. Might be difficult to drive across however.

Check out the effort to save the steamer that made the crossing from the 20's to the 70's... make a donation while you're there:

Yeah, the tunnel from Long Beach to Catalina isn't finished yet. Take the Catalina Express.

If you're driving from Vegas make sure to check out the World's Biggest Thermometer in Baker. That's the best thing along the way ...

you should come to the South Bay instead, a lot closer to Catalina and Magic Mountain. You are going to be doing a lot of driving with your current arrangements

I missread this. I thought you had a waterproof cam and was going to spend money getting a waterproof case.

So, you scuba eh? Very cool. Nothing like being underwater
swimming with the fishes, without cement shoes.

I can assure you there is more to do in the South Bay than there is in Dana Point or Riverside.

BTW, when I say the South Bay, I mean, Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan, Torrance

I go out to Catalina Island a few times a year to Scuba. In my opinion it's the best diving I've ever experienced (if your dive boat captain knows the right places to go).

You definitely have to experience the flying fish. They're amazing. If you're on a live-aboard just go out and stand by the rail at night, especially if there's a lot of kelp around. The fish fly out of the water and land on the kelp hoping to hide from the sea lions. I've never seen anything like it before.

Go check out the restaurant to the right.. peanuts all over the floor and bills all over the walls.. Look for the Bill that says "Jeff"

Also hang a left, grab a few dollars and pay the guy for snorkel equipment.. then go and enjoy the fish. It's like being in a fish tank at a pet store but more amazing.

I wish I had my PADI before I went there, Catalina is NICE.

It sure is a fun relaxing time there. Rent a scooter or golf cart and cruise the island.

It's a casino but a casino in the more old-fashioned sense.

ca·si·no ( P ) Pronunciation Key (k-sn)
n. pl. ca·si·nos
A public room or building for gambling and other entertainment.
also cas·si·no A card game for two to four players in which cards on the table are matched by cards in the hand.
A summer or country house in Italy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Italian, diminutive of casa, house, from Latin.]
Word History: The history of the word casino reveals a transformation from a cottage to a gambling palace. The source of our word, Italian casino, is a diminutive of casa, ?house.? Central to the transformation is the development of the senses of casino in Italian. The word was first applied to a country house and then came to be used for a social gathering place, a room or building where one could dance, listen to music, and gamble. This last pastime seems to have gained precedence over the others, at least as far as the development of the word is concerned, and casino took on the meaning ?gambling establishment.? These senses of the Italian word have all been borrowed into English, the sense ?social gathering place? being recorded first in the 18th century, the sense ?gambling establishment? first in 1851.

Would you recommend any diving sessions to go to? I have been looking online and only have found 3, all of which are land dives.
