Charly Bashing

Being a newb in this business, I dont know jstyle, but coming as a photographer and reading Charly's posts and seeing his content, I dont see why there is so much insult going around.

His work is great, though I dont buy his content (since we make our own) I respect the quality work he puts out.

Claims on his posts being immature and stuff, I dont see it that way at all. Seems to me that his posts are one of the only ones without ego and written with a level head.

My point is that people think that Charly has been "OWN3D" because of where you are currentlyy living. You do not own any of it so Charly's studio blows you out of the water as far as personal business posessions go...From what I have seen anyway.

My businesses are run with virtually NO overhead on my part. My advertising costs are minimal, my office in LA is fairly inexpensive, I don't need a 2,000 sq ft studio, I have no employees, I have no equipment, and don't really have many other costs.

I run a sales and marketing company. What do I need other than a phone and a computer?

I also manage a couple of great affiliate programs. My partners handle the tech side of business, and again - I manage the sales and marketing. No overhead there either.

If someone wants to discount 80% and 95% they are free to do so. However contrary to what Jon says I'm no idiot in the porn production business and know more about marketing than he does.

For all people in businesses like ours (Content Production) our product has a finite life. There are two ways to market, like Sax or Wal-Mart.

Sax way
There is a level a set will reach when it is finished, it has been sold too many times and should really be retired. Your clients want to be showing a quality product that is not everywhere. That says style, class and select.
This is hard to produce, needs more skills, better setting, better models. By this critria you have to get more for the product because of it's sales, cost and value.

Then there is the other way, throw as much mud at the wall and hope some will stick, discount it to the roof and sell to everyone with a few bucks.
The product is everywhere and individually has little or no value, no matter how good the quality. It's just over exposed.

We are in the business of selling fantasy. A guy looks at a video, picture, screen and fantasizes that he can, will get involved in what he's watching. Now if that product is just a plain crap or he's seen it before he wil move on to the next, scene, page or site.

He will not consider that the publisher bought it for relatively nothing from a "Marketing Guru" and generally cool guy. I may be an arrogant, bull headed, overpriced, bitter, leech in someones eyes. But in the eyes of the guy who put's money into all our pockets I'm a genius (and not just me there 100s of other people who do what I do). He does not care that I'm an idiot, that some discount merchant started an advertising campaign by using my name. He's just jerking off to my work. :)

What worries me about people like Jon, is the way they operate. He has low expenses, definitly not the expenses of producing the content. He even lives in someone elses house, probably the guys mate because he give him first bite at the 95% offers he does. He then moves into a content producer, takes a perfectly good product and just discounts the life out of it.

The content producers present clients who were one day buying at full price a product with limited distribution, now see that product for sale at 10% to 5% of the price they paid and now everywhere. He did have a "Sax" level site, he now has "Wal-Mart" produce in it. He will not come back. Once the product is sold 200 times it's finished or has to be discounted even more to sqeeze some life out of it. The content producer is in trouble.

Jon has taken his comission and made a nice little earner and will move onto the next one. For me professionally that is good, he will remove the competition, personally I look at other content producers as just people in the same business and have no beef with them about competition. Only the guys that produce crap with no integrity do I shout against.

There are generally two clients for this kind of deal, one is the big webmaster looking for "Filler Content" when he has it it's done. Then there is the newbie webmaster who thinks he can create a website based on this content. Well you can, but the question is whether you can sell it and withstand the charge backs, because as we well knowthe surfer moves around.

J$tyle$ is like no marketing man I have ever met, he's a discount merchant. Does it work, yes we have a discount store www.bargainbasementcontent.com do I need someone else to promote it? Not at those prices, I do not even include the banner in my post, no need to.

Is J$tyles$ a salesman, probably. He sold himself to the bosses at the content companies he represents to allow him take their content ,discount it 80 to 95% and then take out his cut. Is he a salesman of the content, not at those prices.

Yes I thought it was you. We spoke 15-18 months ago and I listened to your sales pitch and turned you down. It was the Cybererotic and Pamela Anderson video that made me put it together.

As you see Marshall this guy came to me and I told him no. Way back when I was a newbie on the net.

Made the right decision. In those days we had less than 100 sets on the site and were still thinking about going via people like Jon or other Content providers.

Now a year later with nearly 900 sets on the site and plans to grow at 20+ a week and open the lease gallery, we know we made the right decision. Even though we are doing so bad, according to Jon.

But then I'm such a loser and a bitter man, besides being old and needing my diaper changed. How would I know. This could be why my thinking and memory are so bad, senility has set in.

But of our total 875 sets this only accounts for 1/4 of out complete catalogue. It's when someone announces the whole catalogue for sale at 95% off that the warning bells ring. Not that this is the situation with any one that Jon is associated with.

But on the other hand we find there are still good sales to be had from older sets like these.
