Anyone else have money at Vanguard?

If you don’t you should. Fuckers are charging me .05% management fees and making me 20% more than my last broker on average. Plus my brokers fees were fucking outrageous and he had me in every high cost position he could find.

Don’t let friends manage your money no matter how good they are.

Many years ago I had a 401(k) managed through an employer and a Roth IRA managed by me through Vanguard. I had the exact same stocks, with almost the exact same quantity of stocks.

My Roth IRA slaughtered the 401(k). This is when I learned a valuable lesson that most people never learn and I wish would...

Your 401(k) manager is likely killing you. Get away from them if possible. Pay attention to fees. Fees will make a difference you would not believe until you sit down and do the math. It's massive. The difference between a great retirement and a modest retirement supplemented by Social Security.

Ramit Sethi has some good material about fees.

I should have been paying attention to the fees. Cost me a fortune. I’m surprised I wasn’t paying closer attention as I do with all my other investments

QUOTED FOR TRUTH!

self-managed is the ONLY way to go, unless you are a complete and total idiot and can barely navigate an online banking app lol

Self management is fucking stupid. I’ll never know a fraction of what my broker there knows. I make a fraction of the money on the little I manage compared to vanguard

Then you're doing it wrong. Jesus... it's not hard to beat Vanguard/Schwab brokers
You could get a fucking S&P ETF and get the same returns... I mean, it's not like they're getting insider stock trading tips ffs lol They're on stocktwits like the rest of us schlubs.

Watch out, you're going to piss off a lot of people who believe they can beat the system as a solo practitioner who reads the same news everyone else does. So the difference is? Finance knowledge versus just having knowledge in the porn industry.

That's not even accounting for the average gfy posters myopic narcissism that goes "oh you're doing A? I'm doing B you FUCKING IDIOT"

The amount of time and research I would have to do would make it not worth it for me. At .05% fee there is not way I’m going to beat their track record.

I learned a long time ago. I know what I know. What I don’t know I hire those that do. I wasted so much money before learning that.

Guys like Serge can do it. I’ve watched him for decades. But he is brilliant and puts the time in. I don’t have that type of focus.

4 years to get a finance degree and that's what I learned, invest in an index fund with low fee's and you'll beat any financial expert in the long run. Because your broker is a salesman, not some mythical expert with insider knowledge about a market that runs on human emotion and generally made up numbers.
