Class action lawsuit check. Ever get one?

So, I joined a class action lawsuit to get in-person tuition money back from the COVID times. The university settled. We paid 48K in tuition that year for our kid. Today we got a $40 virtual card from the settlement office.

If you're not the attorney that filed the suit, you don't make shit.

I've been included in a few, small checks. Though a couple years ago I was in on one regarding a piece of faulty medical equipment, got a full replacement of the equipment.

I hear "class action lawsuit" and all I can think of is Julia Roberts' cleavage in Erin Brockovich . . .

Most of the time, its the lawyers that get paid and the class members get pennies.

I was part of a class action against Dell where they knowingly put video cards that had a high failure rate. Not only did I get the full value of the laptop back, there were insufficient class members to fill the entire amount they agreed to in the settlement, so they increased the total payout by an extra 25%. Got a full refund and pocketed 25% on the cost of a high end laptop. It was the only time being part of a class action paid off

It depends. About 10 years ago I received a notice of a class action lawsuit because computers and servers were made with a capacitors that were failing. We could "do nothing" and get $20 or something, or we could submit our invoices for all computers purchase for a bigger payout, so thats what we did. Between 1998 and 2015 we bought 11 Dell servers and about 55 desktop computers, and received a nice big check almost about $9000.

Surprise money is sweet!!

I just got one from the Lopez vs Apple thing, I think that was it, and it was for $40.10. If the come by my desk, I file for them. I once got over $500 for something, I forget what that one was.

Yep. Always go in on those. Usually it's not much money but every now and then you get a few hundred bucks.
