EU age verification rules

I know this has been posted in other age verification threads, but I thought it would be useful to have one devoted to the proposed rules in the EU.

It appears that they are likely to be finalized in 12 months. I'm not sure if this means they will come into effect in 12 months, or this will be just the guidelines for each member state to then implement?

The final version might be even worse than the UK Online Safety Act.

Sponsors should be working on SFW tours and promo material as fast as possible. They should have been doing it months or years ago. In 12 months time, most UK/European affiliates may only be promoting sponsors that have SFW promo materials.

From the German article:

Quote:
"Age checks should not be easily circumvented
The draft guidelines already required age verification to be proportionate and to respect children's rights, privacy, and data protection. In the final version of the guidelines, the Commission has made the following refinements:

Providers should therefore not only assess whether age restrictions on their services are appropriate and proportionate, but also publish this assessment . This increases the pressure to ensure that such an assessment is also sound.

When conducting age checks, providers should explicitly adhere to the principle of data minimization , i.e. collect as little data as possible.

ID-based checks should be anonymous ; providers should use an independent third-party service provider for this purpose.

Age assessment—for example, using so-called AI—should also be carried out by independent third parties. These independent age verifiers, in turn, should be independently audited to ensure data protection.

Age verification checks should meet a number of criteria: They should be accurate, reliable, and irreversible. Furthermore, they should not exclude minors belonging to a minority group. Otherwise—and this sentence is new—they should be considered " not appropriate and proportionate."
Seems the EU is working on a specific app for citizens to use to access adult sites:

Quote:
"The EU Commission is apparently aware that the final guidelines now presented cannot be the final word. A review is already planned. The draft stated that this review would take place as soon as necessary. It now reads less vaguely: the Commission intends to revisit the guidelines within 12 months at the latest.

By then, there should at least be some experience with the age verification app planned by the EU. Adult EU users are supposed to use this app to generate proof of age to overcome age barriers. After the Commission initially presented the app's specifications , the code for the prototype is now also online. According to the EU Commission , five EU countries are already testing the app: France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Denmark."

So if one knows that you use it, it discloses your sexual preferences?
But sexual preferences are dangerous statistics (aren't they?)

My advice is that you don't tell anyone where you moved your servers. People in this business copy each other. A hoard of them will start moving their servers and won't be too long before the State Department and EU start putting pressure on that nation to adopt their policies.

I don´t think this is a matter of where you´re serving from, in the end, your server would be cut off if Ofcom wants...

Ofcom and the UK government, the EU and US will be making sure you, we, I, all of us bar by the rules and regs

Yeah, bricks and mortar could make a comeback again.

It's been hard enough the last couple of years with the Google algorithm updates and the worry over the way AI will impact things, and now we have this to deal with. I was hoping to take out a mortgage this year, but I think I'll leave it until we see how this plays out.

Maybe things will work out and everybody having to put up SFW tours might actually increase sales.

The American market is truly the only market that losing will cause a significant loss in business revenu. But it's been a problematic market for years so we adapted years ago and produce mostly for the foriegn market. So we won't comply and instead we'll just abandon.
