Right now everything depends on if my girlfriend gets accepted into med school this September.

She had her interview a bit ago...and in that they told her she should try and get more life experiences and travel more and just live more really, before she dedicates herself to that.

So from hearing that she thinks it might be another year before she's accepted, though we're still waiting to hear back.

Just different things about the area that anyone going there would ask...especially stuff about living accommodations, etc.

We need to find a flat/apartment and everything I've come across online has been useless. Just looking for a simple place.

Everything I've found online has been around $700-$1000 a week. We're not looking for anything like that. Seems pretty high for a 1 bedroom apartment.

Well we both do, and this would be a good opportunity to do so. She has a job lined up already to work in a lab down there.

You can see thousands of places to rent on these websites:

www.realestate.com.au

www.domain.com.au

(make sure you choose the rental section and not the for sale section)

In Sydney, the nicest areas are in the north side and the east side. The south is ok, and the west side is generally considered the least nice side of the city, although its not that bad, but its also the cheapest.

Lots of travelling people live in and around Bondi beach.

Rental rates are quoted by the week here, not by the month.

You can get a decent 1 bedroom apartment in Sydney for $250/week easy

For $700/week you can get a penthouse apartment.

Yeah we're looking to spend around $1000-$1200 a month hopefully.

We don't need anything to extravagant...at the longest we're only staying for a year...and we'll only be buying the minimal amount of accessories/appliances for our place, since it would costs a small fortune to ship them back with us.

You might want to consider an area called Potts Point, its between downtown sydney and bondi beach and there is a subway kindof thing that is near there that can take you into the city in 5 minutes

Potts Point is where alot of travelling people live as well

Also, Canadians are eligible for the working holiday visa

I haven't talked to anyone about it yet and I'm not sure if you'd have any idea...

but since I'm a graphic designer and can have a computer setup anywhere in the world as long as I have an internet connection...would I still need a visa? It's no different than what I'm doing here...and in no way am I taking a job away from someone there.

You will be fine as long as you DO NOT TELL THE IMMIGRATION PEOPLE AT THE AIRPORT.

Tell them you're coming to Australia under the working holiday visa, if they ask if you have a job lined up already, say "not yet"

Don't bother getting into the details of your situation with them, just tell them you're planning on looking for work once you're here and they'll just assume you'd get a job at some pub or something.

There isn't anything technically wrong with working for yourself though, but if you try to go that route with immigration it can open up a whole world of annoying questions you don't want or need.

They might not even ask you anything though

Those numbers I was giving were in Australian dollars by the way.

$1 USD = $1.60 AUD

South East Queensland is THE most beautiful part of Australia

Add to that most of the major porners are based there

So my picks would be:

1) Surfers Paradise
2) Brisbane
3) Sydney

In that order

I came from Vancouver, Canada and I'm staying in Manly, across the harbour from Sydney. It's pretty sweet here, super touristy tho..

If you getting a 1 year working visa can you only work for one employer for a maximum of 3 moths? then you have to change jobs? Might add complications if you work for yourself

west australia doesn't exist for 90% of australians... it's so hot they all live in holes in the ground like hobbits. westside aint shit.. seriously. if you're not on the east coast you're in the middle of fucking nowhere. if perth was an ice cream flavour, it would be "pralines and dick".

except the inner west... which is a little trendy and bohemian... i've lived in glebe, annandale and lilyfield.. the former two being quite nice.. the latter more industrial red brick, but it'll get there in 10 years.

potts point is a little expensive no?
