I hate American Idol
I'm sorry but I HATE American Idol, and I don't hate stuff usually.
The Western World (mostly USA) being force-fed shabby sounding singers who all attempt to sound the same anyway. That "diva" type of R&B sound... you know what I mean. What's more, the popularity of the show is due mainly to the hype and money surrounding the promotion of it. I have tuned in a couple times only to laugh and mock everyone involved with this piece of crap television broadcast. Please do yourself a favor and go purchase an old Boston CD, or something by the Foo Fighters, or maybe even an old ACDC recording.

I never watched AI until the last 3 weeks of Season 2. Hate to admit it, I loved it, and loved the 205, "Velvet Teddy Bear".
But, the addiction started 20 years ago with Star Search. AI is doing a juniors competition starting around June 3rd, and I will be one of the 24 million viewers to watch. Beats the Matrix crap. |

I can say that I have never watched more than a few minutes of the show and that was when the fat girl and side show Bob from the Simpsons were the finalists
I would rather have hot oil dumped on me than watch that show I would rather have somone screaming Arabic in my ear on a 110 degree day than listen to side show Bob sing another wedding reception standard I would rather watch Glitter repeatedly dubbed in german ...... |

EC, 24 million people watched the last several episodes, it out did or nearly matched the once a year SuperBowl, but many times more.
Screw the Idol concept it is pure marketing innovation at its finest mechanics wise. They rake in large advertisors, they merchandise the finalists on CD, in concerts, they do record deals and make sales money from that, they own these people for a mere payout of $1,000,000 only to the winner and a record deal. Last years winner sold 3 million on her one CD released weeks ago and it went platinum already. They cultivated the market via the TV show, and sold CD's within their own following, absolutely brilliant. Thats the intrigue for me. These kids would have no chance to be recording artists, what a niche, and the AI owners are making gazillion millions, and these kids make enough bling to be owned during their 15 mins of fame. I love this show, win-win for everyone, market to 24 million folk following and merchandise the shit out of their own market. Bet we see 205 Studdard jerseys coming to the GAP store soon. Business brilliance at its finest. |
