Just finished Fear and Loathing for the first time again since college and I laughed just as hard. Much better than the movie, although the movie was good. Very funny read if anyone has trouble finishing books, give this one a try.

Who played a better Hunter S? Bill Murray or Johnny Deep?

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?"

Then it was quiet again. My attorney had taken his shirt off and was pouring beer on his chest, to facilitate the tanning process. "What the hell are you yelling about?" he muttered, staring up at the sun with his eyes closed and covered with wraparound Spanish sunglasses. "Never mind," I said. "It's your turn to drive." I hit the brakes and aimed the Great Red Shark toward the shoulder of the highway. No point mentioning those bats, I thought. The poor bastard will see them soon enough.

love the book and the movies, and actually both bill murray and johnny depp played hunter in 2 different movies. murray played him in the earlier 80s flick called 'where the buffalo roam' which wasn't soely based on his fear and loathing book. johnny depp was amazing in fear and loathing in las vegas, you almost forget its johnny. amazing visuals in that movie. i've also got the great shark hunt and the rum diaries by hunter, tho i have yet to read them.

Favorite part in the Buffalo Roams is when he gives the business man the acid on the plane trip and when he was playing football in his hotel during the super bowl with the maids and some midgets! Atleast, thats how I remeber it, might have to see both the movies again. Funny Shit

lol yeah that was a good movie, been a while since i saw it. tho i recall hearing that hunter didn't like murrays portrail of him too much, tho personally i think depp did a much better hunter anyhow, he totally got into the essence that is that crazy fucker.

Johny Depp is a close personal friend of hunter and spent many months with hunter learning his manerisims so in that sense he is a better hunter than bill murry.

If you havent check out his latest book Kingdom of Fear...

Its his post 9/11 book and proves to the masses that you can still talk shit about the goverment without getting thrown in jail.

It does go into him and depp hanging out as well which was cool to hear about.

Actually he just wrote another book, factually describing his youth, and how it has affected his adult lufe. I recommend it, and will get back with the title.
