:mad You make a custom banner for pushing a sponsor, and some idiot starts using it too

Not all sponsors are that sharp at creating banners. I like to make custom ones for sponsors with potential that can grab a lot of sales from the niche surfers. They don't usually have the skills or $$ to drop on a banner farm but I will make one if they convert.

What to do when some other affiliate decides to start using it? Bitch at the sponsor to tell the idiot to stop using it?

I knew I should have watermarked that fucking thing.

Probably the webmaster doesnt know the banner cant be used. Just e-mail him and ask nicely to remove the banner.

I agree with that in theory, but no email back.

Emailing him was the right call. I would give it a few days though. It's memorial day weekend and lots of people are away.

Hi,

I clicked the banner and it went to *********.com. Period. Perhaps there was a popup for *********.com when I was at *********.com I and clicked on that banner; I don't know.cannot say at this time.

You were still quite rude to someone whom you do not even know. And that fact says a LOT more about me than about you. Do not e-mail me again. I do not have time for such unprofessional behavior.

I do not run *********.com, and you are not my affiliate. You are a competing affiliate using ad materials which I created for my own exclusive use in promoting *********.com.

Bearing this in mind, I am being quite polite.

Hi,

I'll remove your banner. I am one of your newer affiliates ( 3-31-03), saw the banner on the Internet, and of course, thought that since you were using it to promote your site, that it was available for affiliates to use as well. For all I knew, the banner was so new that you had not included it in the banners for your affiliate's use as of yet.

After the traffic that I have sent you from two major toplists (863 hits and 2 signups), I would think you would have been a little kinder in your letter. If you had simply viewed source in my HTML, the fact that I am indeed an affiliate would have been glaringly apparent.

I have a large Internet presence with two large paysites. After reading your letter to me, I am reminded of the importance of ALWAYS being polite to one's affiliates. I am very glad that I treat my affiliates (and everyone else) with courtesy.

Got any good gothic or fetish traffic for http://www.spookycash.com/ ? I'd be happy to have you make some of your own banners and not share 'em with random people on the internet who can only send two signups.

Oh man, i know exactly how you feel.
I was thinking about it just yesterday - you pay money to have some kick ass banners designed, and the next day they are all over the net.

She looks sad 'cause you called her frumpy:

Seriously, not to toot my own horn, but nobody else can do the goth niche like we can. We've been doing it for longer than anybody else on the net. So it will be worth your while to send any goth traffic you have to http://www.barelyevil.com/ and http://www.gothicsluts.com/ If you have big traffic, we will work with you on special stuff like custom partner deals, content, hosted galleries, etc.

Tell that to 100 people.. 2 signups that get rebilled means $$$$

As far as a Banner goes you show me one that gets people to signup and I'll show ya a Monkey on the moon!

If someone signs up for a site it's because of the interest in the content, and I get more click-throughs from Text links!

If he thinks that is being rude, I really think you should email him again.

But as he said;
do not e-mail him again. He is a true professional webmaster and do not have time for such unprofessional behavior.
He's so professional that he grabs graphics to promote his sponcers from random websites, rather than make his own or login at his sponsors site to grab some like the rest of us newbies.

I'm pretty sure there's a lesson to be learned here somewhere, I'm just not sure what it is yet.... I hope I'll be able to figure it out some time

Good lord, I can't tell you how many buttons, banners, thumbs and such I have made to promote programs, only to find that other guys have grabbed them for their own use. It has happened to me hundreds of times over the years. I gave up bitching about it, it's just not worth it.
